Alexander Shevchenko vs Vitaliy Sachko Expert Tip
The price here for Shevchenko is simply nonsensical, given the fact he’s been just as strong on clay courts as he has been on hard courts and is a borderline tour-ready player at this point, while Sachko lacks weapons from the baseline and will likely be a journeyman on the Challenger Tour for the rest of his career.
The question is why is this price seemingly so ridiculous? The answer? Perhaps there is a motivation issue for the Russian. We’ll look at his appearance in Genoa last week in a minute, but it wasn’t the most inspired tennis from him.
Even still, if we take a look at the likelihood of who wins this match, one simply cannot convince me that Shevchenko is so apathetic back at a Challenger tournament that he’s only winning this contest 60% of the time.

Alexander Shevchenko Recent Form
The 2023 has been one that’s seen the 22-year-old announce his presence on both the Challenger Tour and main tour scenes.
He’s pushed and beaten some really strong competition and it’s no surprise as to how he’s done so.
He has big weapons from the baseline, a strong enough serve and can succeed across surfaces. He did retire at his warmup event for the U.S. Open in Winston-Salem and didn’t look too competitive in his lone match in New York though, so perhaps the market is still concerned about his form.
Last week he had to come back from a set down against Marcello Serafiini, before blowing a lead to Chun Hsin Tseng. I don’t blame anyone who doesn’t trust him yet, but working off potential rust from an injury does take a few matches and if he’s good enough to go again this week, I trust him against a tricky, but relatively underpowered opponent.
Vitaliy Sachko Recent Form
The 26-year-old Ukrainian has done a decent job this season at the Challenger level on the dirt, winning in Bratislava and making another final in Verona. He lacks notable wins, however, and more importantly, he really lacks wins against players with weapons from the baseline.
Sachko has a decent serve of his own, but struggles to generate offence from the baseline and utilises variety more than power.
I’m not sure his more pesky, consistent style is enough on its own to beat someone like Shevchenko in this matchup.
Alexander Shevchenko vs Vitaliy Shevchenko – Stat of the Match
It’s not the most relevant match, but Shevchenko has won the only match these two have played against one another. It came on clay four years ago on the ITF Tour. Perhaps the most notable part of that result? It was by a six-game margin and Shevchenko was still a teenager at the time, whereas Sachko was in his 20s.
Still, it’s too long ago to take all that seriously.
I think the fact that Shevchenko has defeated five players in the top-50 this season, while Sachko has only played four in his entire career (winning none of them) is probably the best metric to point to that illustrates the gulf in talent between these two.
