Albert Ramos Vinolas vs Raul Brancaccio Best Bet: Wednesday, June 14th
Ricardas Berankis’ preference for quick courts couldn’t overcome what was a clear talent advantage for Laslo Djere on Tuesday, as the Serbian sunk the Berankis wager with relative ease.
For Wednesday’s preview from the men’s tournaments, we’ll jump down to the Challenger Tour circuit and look at the late match in Perugia between Albert Ramos Vinolas and Raul Brancaccio.

The 2023 season hasn’t exactly been one to write home about for either Ramos Vinolas or Brancaccio, but the fact is, these are still two players that compete at completely different echelons within the sport.
Ramos Vinolas doesn’t have many wins this season, but plenty of his losses have been to players like Stan Wawrinka (in five sets), Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, Carlos Alcaraz, Jan Lennard Struff or Tomas Martin Etcheverry. Those are all quality ATP Tour-level players – many of whom are having breakout seasons.
Contrast that with the Italian, who has been losing consistently at the Challenger Tour level, several times to guys that are lower-level Challenger players and out of form in their own right.
It’s also worth noting that Perugia is about 500 metres above sea level, which should impact this match. Playing in altitude means the balls travel through the air with less resistance and tends to favour bigger hitters.
With neither really being a big hitter or being able to take advantage of that by hitting through their opponent, I don’t think that the gap between the two really closes much. In fact, it may even favour the Spaniard more. Ramos Vinolas managed a decent run in Cordoba, Argentina earlier in the season at similar elevation and picked up a win at the Madrid Masters, also in relatively similar conditions.

The only concern in these situations is generally motivation. If these tour level pros dip down to the Challenger Tour, on occasion they may duck out of events early if they are entered into qualifying for an event on the main tour the following week.
With Ramos Vinolas looking to play as often as possible to accrue points on his preferred clay courts and slated to take part in another Challenger on the surface next week, that isn’t much of a concern.
He’s not looking to get his grass court tuneup match (or matches) until Eastbourne in a few weeks.
For me, that’s enough to confirm that this handicap should be on the other side of -4 games. Winning by just two breaks in this matchup is more than feasible for the 35-year-old.
