Adam Walton vs Mitchell Krueger (Atlantic Tire Championships): Tuesday, September 12th
The ATP Tour is off this week, with Davis Cup happening in the coming days, but with the odds coming out so late as bookmakers have to wait for matchup confirmations, it’s tough to bet on Davis Cup ties until the hours before matches begin.
With that said, we’ll continue to look to the Challenger Tour for our tips from the men’s side of things this week. Let’s take a deeper look at Adam Walton vs Mitchell Krueger from the Atlantic Tire Championships in North Carolina, USA.

Adam Walton vs Mitchell Krueger Expert Tip
I have to back the Aussie here against Kruger for a multitude of reasons. For starters, I think he has the ability to construct holds of serve more easily with cheaper points. Secondly, I think he’s on the ascent at 24 years old, while his American counterpart is trying to rebuild his ranking now in his late 20s.
Walton has also had more success this season and has even won a title in this very city in North America at the first Challenger that was held here just last month.
Finally, it’s not like Walton is a fish out of water playing in the Americas either. He’s been here all season and played for several years in the American collegiate system for the University of Tennessee. That also means he’s just fine playing on the American hard courts in the southern parts of the United States where it can be warmer and the courts quicker.
- Expert Tip: Walton to win at 1.87 with Pinnacle, using 3/10 stakes.

Adam Walton Recent Form
46. That’s the number of victories the 24-year-old from Brisbane, Australia has managed to accumulate so far in 2023 on the professional circuit.
He’s picked up a pair of ITF titles and another at the more respected Challenger Tour level along the way, and made several more semifinals and finals to boot.
The former Tennessee Volunteer has what I find to be an undervalued serve, decent enough movement and the ability to dictate from the baseline, while not committing an egregious number of unforced errors.
I think there is still room to grow on the pro tour and there’s no doubt there have been some learning curves for him this season, but when in the United States, he’s been pretty strong.
A lot of his troubles stemmed from a stretch where he played one event in Canada, the next in Ecuador and then a third back in the USA in a three-week span.
For someone used to travelling around one or two regions of just the United States in college, that grind from country to country week to week that the pro tour demands can be a tough adjustment.
Outside of that however, I think he’s acquitted himself well when it comes to dealing with the much tougher quality of competition at this level.
Mitchell Krueger Recent Form
To Krueger’s credit, he has been trying to work through struggles in 2023 and he humbled himself to head back to the ITF Tour level to win an indoor event in search of form.
Other than that, however, I’m just not very big on his game. He’s not the greatest returner, and while his first serve is strong, it isn’t enough to compete week-in, week-out on hard courts.
He’s also nearing 30 now and it’s not like he’s a young gun on the rise going through growing pains. At this stage, one has to look at this like he’s probably in a more sustained decline than anything.
His game from the baseline isn’t particularly powerful either, and while not error prone per se, he’s also not the picture of solidity either.
I’m not big on the American here and I’m surprised that a rather in-form Walton isn’t a clear favourite in the match.
Adam Walton vs Mitchell Krueger – Stat of the Match
No professional meeting between these two just yet with Walton still new to the professional ranks, but I do want to take a look at a few numbers in this one.
Walton has been far better backing up his serve than Krueger at this level in 2023, while not really sacrificing much in relation to his opponent on the return of serve.
Not only does he land just as many first serves, but he wins more of them, backs up his second serve more effectively, fires down far more aces and holds serve at a clip of over eight percentage points more than Krueger. That is a huge advantage for the Aussie.
Throw in the fact they both break serve in the 22% range and you have a big edge here with Walton.
With him improving and on his way up and Krueger on an opposite trajectory, I’m keen on Walton at the price on offer.;
