Wednesday Tennis Best Bet: ATP Challenger Chicago, Abdullah Shelbayh vs Yunseong Chung
Abdullah Shelbayh vs Yunseong Chung Best Bet: Wednesday, July 12th
We split the bets on Roman Safiullin, as he split the opening sets with Jannik Sinner, before the young Italian ran away with the third and fourth sets.
For Wednesday, there isn’t as much value to be found on the board at Wimbledon, so it’s off to the Challenger Tour for Wednesday’s preview, as we take a look at the match between Abdullah Shelbayh and Yunseong Chung.

Abdullah Shelbayh vs Yunseong Chung Preview

This could be a fun one on a hard court, as the hard courter from Korea takes on the teenage Shelbayh.
While Chung has the rudimentary serve and forehand game with an aggressive mindset, the Jordanian has more variety to his game. He has the ability to play an attacking style, but can also buy himself time when needed with some topspin, works angles well with his lefty forehand and has the variety to throw his opponents out of rhythm.
Form wise, I’d also tend to side with the former University of Florida Gator. Chung doesn’t have the most impressive record on hard courts this season, but more importantly, many of the losses he’s been handed have come from much worse players than himself. When his game isn’t working and he’s hitting unforced errors in bunches, that tends to happen, especially without a Plan B to turn to.
Not only is Shelbayh’s record better on hard courts, but his most recent losses on this surface have come against players like Thanasi Kokkinakis, Soonwoo Kwon, Chris Eubanks and James McCabe. The first three are all main tour-level talents and McCabe is another promising young talent.
Between having the better game and having a better season to this point, I think Shelbayh should fancy his chances of advancing to the quarterfinals.
Abdullah Shelbayh vs Yunseong Chung Best Bet
I’m a big fan of Shelbayh and do believe that because of the market’s lack of data on him to this point, we’re seeing an undervaluation. He has a strong, well-rounded game, is used to American hard courts as a former NCAA player and my numbers have him as a 3.5-game favourite.
For those reasons, I do believe there is plenty of value to be had backing the -2.5-game handicap.
- Selection: Shelbayh -2.5 Games
- Best Odds: 1.90 (Pinnacle)
- Stakes: 4/10
Odds as at 5:00 am UK Time on July 11th, 2023. Odds may now differ.
