Israel Adesanya vs Sean Strickland: Stylebender’s Show of Force
A fight that has been a long time in the making, Israel Adesanya, the Middleweight champion, takes on Sean Strickland, the 5th-ranked fighter in the division.
UFC fans have been dying to see these two face off in the octagon ever since Strickland called out Izzy in that press conference a year and a half ago before facing Alex Pereira. He did get his lights knocked out by Poatan in that fight, but Sean came back with 2 masterclass performances against Imavov and Magomedov.
Adesanya has since faced Jared Cannonier and Alex Pereira twice. He has defended, lost and reclaimed the Middleweight title in the last year and is now looking to make his 6th title defence.
I have Izzy winning this one rather easily His 10-centimetre reach advantage, his kicks and the long-range game should give him a huge advantage here.
Strickland has a unique (weird) fighting guard and relies heavily on his ability to parry and react on time. I don’t think he is ready for a fight of this calibre and he will need to change up his game plan.
I expect Izzy to use the first 2 rounds to pick apart Strickland from a distance and eventually finish the fight with a TKO.

Alexander Volkov vs Tai Tuivasa: Drago Completes the Comeback
We’re moving to the Heavyweight division for the co-main event as Alexander Volkov takes on Tai Tuivasa. The 7th and 6th ranked fighter respectfully will be fighting a 3-rounder but I don’t expect this fight to reach the final bell.
We have Alexander Volkov, the 34-year-old prominent striker out of Russia with 24 KO/TKO wins under his belt. He has faced some adversity in his career but is now on a 2-fight winning streak with both coming of TKOs.
Tai Tuivasa was on a 5-fight KO winning streak before getting stopped by Cyril Gane by TKO a year ago before getting KOed again just a few months after by Sergei Pavlovich. A poor choice of opponents and timing have forced Tai to take the better part of 2023 off and he is now looking to bounce back against Drago.
However, Volkov is by far the more experienced fighter with a 5-inch reach advantage and a ton of punching power. The bookmakers expect him to get the job done by KO/TKO and so do I. His strikes from a distance and front kicks to the body should wear down his opponent and open up the chance for a finish.

Justin Tafa vs Austen Lane: Lane Pulls the Upset
What better way to find betting value than among the unranked heavyweights? This will be a rematch between Justin Tafa and Austen Lane.
Their last match-up was ruled a no-contest due to an eye poke and Tafa was unable to continue fighting. Now, the 29-year-old New Zealander is favoured to win, available at 1.47 odds at bet365. He was on a 2-fight winning streak before that encounter with KO victories over Parker Porter and Harry Honsucker.
However, his opponent in this one will be a very athletic heavyweight, standing 6’6 and a 6-inch reach advantage. He showed great kicks in the 30-second sequence before the fight was stopped and I see some solid value in backing Lane at 2.75 odds.
I wouldn’t blame you if you chose either one of these guys but the odds next to Lane’s name are too enticing. In his short UFC career, Lane has absorbed 1.67 strikes per minute while Tafa is at 5.95.
I expect Lane to be able to strike from a distance and earn the victory.

Tyson Pedro vs Anton Turkalj: Pedro’s Ground Game Shines
1 year, 3 fights, 1 win, 2 losses. Those are the numbers for the Anton Pleasure Man Turkalj since joining the UFC last year. Disappointing to say the least, especially when we take into consideration the talent.
This weekend, Turkalj will be taking on Tyson Pedro on the main card of UFC 293. The 27-year-old Swede is on a 2-fight losing streak and coming off a unanimous decision loss to Vitor Petrino. His UFC stint has been a disappointment so far, and despite attempting almost 7 takedowns per 15, he has struggled to turn them into victories.
Tyson Pedro is by far the more experienced fighter out of the two, but his recent record has left a lot to be desired. He has fought 5 times since 2018 and is 2-3 while coming off a unanimous decision loss against Modestas Bukauskas.
But Pedro has the grappling credentials to counter Turkalj’s constant takedown attempts and if he can keep the fight on the feet, his 2.96 strikes per minute should be enough to give him the edge.
