UFC Odds: Gane vs Volkov Odds & Tip

Cyril Gane and Alexander Volkov step into the octagon in the main fight of this weekend’s UFC event. Gane is currently third in the UFC Heavyweight rankings, whilst Volkov is fifth. The winner of this one will have a legitimate case to challenge Heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou for the title.

Gane vs Volkov Odds ODDS PROBABILITY
Gane to win 1.58 63.30%
Volkov to win 2.40 41.70%

Odds at bet365 14:30. June 24th, 2021. Odds may now differ

Ciryl Gane Style & Form:

Ciryl Gane made his UFC debut in August 2019 and is already in the top five in the UFC Heavyweight rankings. He has fought five times in the UFC and won all five fights.

His most notable victories were a TKO over Junior Dos Santos and a unanimous decision over Jairzinho Rozenstruik. His resume is something to behold, as Gane is undefeated both in his MMA and his Muay Thai career.

Gane is 31 years old with a reach of 206 centimeters and fighting out of Paris, France. Although his fighting is mainly focused on striking because of his Muay Thai background, Gane has also shown impressive grappling skills. In fact, he won his first-ever pro-MMA fight via submission.

His UFC debut and his second fight were also submission wins, by arm-triangle choke and heel hook respectively.

But the most impressive part of his game is his maturity and fighting IQ. He did an excellent job to stick to his game plan against Rozenstruik and completely canceled out his opponent’s left hook, straight right, and leg kicks. Another notable weapon that Gane has in his arsenal are his kicks.

Volkov will be the best possible test for Gane, and an opportunity to see whether he is a legitimate title contender.

Alexander Volkov Style & Form:

At 32 years of age, Alexander Volkov’s resume is as impressive as they come. With 41 pro MMA fights, 33 wins, and 8 losses, Volkov is one of the most active fighters the sport has ever seen.

Volkov joined the UFC in June 2016, and his record in the organization is seven wins and two defeats. He faced some of the toughest competition the UFC has to offer in Werdum, Overeem, Lewis, and Blaydes.

After defeats to Derrick Lewis and Curtis Blaydes, Volkov bounced back better than ever with wins over Walt Harris and Alistair Overeem. His fight against Overeem was the most impressive, with Volkov virtually taking no damage, and dominating the fight.

However, Gane is much different than Overeem in one key aspect – movement. Gane makes sure not to get himself caught against the cage and avoids taking damage. He is very light on his feet, despite being a heavyweight, and moves from the centerline with ease.

Both of Volkov’s last two fights were KO/TKO victories, and the one against Overeem won ‘performance of the night’. Volkov has been performing very well recently, and he avoided taking significant damage.

He likes to stick to his strategy and loves to use his jab to stun opponents, setting the tone for his straight combinations. That said, he can get predictable at times, and it would be nice to see him mix in some more kicks in his striking.

Gane vs Volkov Best Bet

This is a very even match-up, and it could go either way really. But, the bookmakers see Gane as the favorite and give him 1.58 odds of pulling off the victory, whilst Volkov is given 2.40.

Gane is a southpaw and likes to use his right hand to control the opponent’s left, neutralizing the jab Volkov likes to use. He is also very quick, and can easily avoid any straight right by parrying or moving out of the pocket. His strategy and fighting IQ will be his best weapons.

The one thing Volkov can utilize effectively in this one is the calf kick. Gane is a southpaw, and his right leg will be very open to Volkov’s calf kicks. If Gane fails to check, this will open him up for Volkov’s vicious combinations.

I don’t think we will see another brawl in the Heavyweight division, and it will be a breath of fresh air. This will be a tactical match, with both fighters respecting each other’s power. It will likely open up in the second round a bit, but I guess we will have to wait and see what their strategies will be.

That said, I believe Gane is the better fighter in this one and he will come out on top.

Prediction: Gane to win at 1.58 odds.

UFC Acca Tips

  • Ciryl Gane vs Alexander Volkov- Gane by decision at 2.87 odds
  •  Tanner Bosser vs Ovince Saint Preux – Bosser by KO/TKO submission or DQ – 3.50 odds
  • Julia Avila vs Julija Stoliarenko- Avila to win by KO/TKO submission or DQ – 3.25

Total: 32.64 odds

Odds at bet365 14:30. June 24th, 2021. Odds may now differ

1. Gane by decision – 2.87

Gane is my pick to win this fight, but the way in which it will happen is disputable. As I said, this won’t turn into a brawl, and both fighters will exercise caution throughout the fight. Gane is a technical striker and doesn’t allow himself to overcommit to punches.

That said, it takes a lot of power to knock out Alexander Volkov. In fact, it takes Derrick Lewis type of power to do so, and Ciryl Gane won’t allow himself to get carried away attempting that.

2. Bosser by KO/TKO submission or DQ – 3.50

Tanner Bosser feels like he was robbed in his fight against Ilir Latifi. The fight was very close and it could have gone either way. Now, he is facing an opponent that is way past his prime and isn’t what he once was.

Saint Preux is coming off a TKO loss, and Bosser is a knockout artist, a match made in heaven.

3. Avila by KO/TKO submission or DQ – 3.25

Now this one is a bit cheeky, but it has to be done. Julija Stoliarenko collapsed twice in the weigh-ins last time they were supposed to meet. The fact is, Stoliarenko cuts too much weight for the Bantamweight division and this will severely impact her ability to fight.

Also, Avila is the better fighter in this one even without the weight advantage. She has notable wins over Page Kianzad and Gina Mazany and needs to bounce back after her decision loss in September 2020.
