Toronto Maple Leafs vs New York Rangers Best Bet: A Goal Scoring Festival
Toronto Maple Leafs vs New York Rangers Best Bet: Wednesday, January 25th
Happy Hump Day! Our resident pucks pundit Ej Garr is in familiar territory talking about the NY Rangers, so what does he have in store for us today? It looks like he’s given away some of the stories expecting a bonanza of goals coming our way, so let’s see if he’s right. We’ll bet he has a winner in store for us tonight!

I might have spoiled the surprise with my expectations for the game being played with my Blue Shirts taking on the Leafs up North, but let me tell you a story.
So, the story begins with the total being set at only 6, and GGBet showing 2.02 as I hand this article in on Tuesday night. Now, I don’t know if that is going to hold up, and I see most major books offering around 1.95 in reality.
Since I am in the States, I don’t have access to your European books, but I see everything being offered around the world so I know what bookmakers are offering the best lines on the play I have in mind. Goals, people! Who is going to stop who and how are they going to do it?
The Rangers looked in form and in the mood to pour on the goals against Florida on Monday night, and I know this because I watched every minute of the game. I don’t miss Rangers’ games unless … wait, no, I don’t miss Rangers’ games at all so scratch that.
The Panthers gave Alex Ryan another shot in the net hoping he could build on the 2 – 0 beginning of his campaign. Yeah, not so much, because he didn’t get the goal support he got from his first two starts. The Rangers took advantage of their limited opportunities only putting 26 shots on goal while scoring 6 times. Not a bad ratio of shots-to-paydirt, baby!
The Rangers are giving up too many shots lately, and they needed Mika Zibanejad to get back on track after a 7-game drought without a goal. Mika scored twice and dropped a dime to pick up 3 points and to that, I say THANK YOU!
When Mika is right, the Blue Shirts are having success, and we need him to carry that over into this game in Toronto tonight. The Rangers’ power play has been lethargic at best lately, and until the 1 for 1 on Monday night, they had gone 1 for their last 19 in man-advantage situations. That is always a little bit of a concern with Ranger totals, but the Leafs are susceptible all the same.
While I was watching the Rangers game on Monday, one channel up was the Leafs vs the Islanders so I was peeking in on that. Toronto came out flat as the Isles took a 1 – 0 lead into the second period. I was a little shocked but then that all turned around in short order. Toronto dumped four second-period goals on Ilya Sorokin in the second frame and the Isles never put up much of a fight from there.
Willian Nylander notched a brace in Toronto’s 5 – 2 win on Monday, and Austin Mathews closed out the third period by scoring the only goal in the final 20-minute skate. With the effort, Mitchell Marner and he are tied for the team scoring lead with 56 points apiece for the campaign.
Toronto Maple Leafs vs NY Rangers Best Bet
I hope both teams go out looking to put rubber on Shesterkin and Samsonov who are the expected starters between the pipes. You know I love Igor, but Toronto will be able to put enough shots on goal to likely score 3 times, so I expect 3 – 3 in with time to spare. So, the best bet to make is…
- Selection: Over 6 (OT-Included
- Best odds: 1.95 (Pinnacle)
- Stakes: 4/10
Odds as of 9:00 am January 25, 2023. Odds may now differ.
