Neither the Vegas Golden Knights nor the Florida Panthers has achieved the glorified status of being Stanley Cup winners, and it is only the second time that either team has even participated in the finals.

No one had Florida to reach this point of the post-season, and if you did you got pretty lucky but it’s not just about luck anymore. Florida paved their way to the finals by beating three fantastic hockey teams who didn’t expect to lose to the Panthers but Boston, Toronto, and the Carolina Hurricanes all took it on the chin.
The fact that Florida is on the road to begin the Stanley Cup Finals should only cause concern for the Knights. Florida lost the first game of the playoffs against Boston in Bean Town and they have not lost a road game since then. The number is up to eight consecutive away wins entering the finals for the Panthers, and the line setters are undoubtedly aware of it as well. If you hadn’t noticed, the Panthers are barely listed as underdogs for Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals, and the odds at 2.10 surely don’t scream to me that Vegas is going to win this game.
Home ice has been good to Vegas as they have taken wins from 6 of their 9 games played here at T-Mobile Arena in the playoffs. They did lose their final game played here against Dallas, however, and despite going up 3 games to love on the Stars, Dallas made quite a comeback to force six games.
What Florida did to Carolina is what is leaving a lasting impression on me, and they made the Bruins look like just another team after all the regular season records they broke. Boston was surely not going to lose in the opening round to an 8-seeded Florida Panthers squad, right? Hmm hmm, then the Leafs and the sweep of the Canes to boot?
