The Flyers and Caps will take the Wells Fargo Center ice on Wednesday night, and despite what I just watched the other night with the Caps and Jackets, I am still expecting a high-scoring game in this spot.
The Caps still managed to take two points from the Jackets this past Sunday, although it was a scoreless draw until the 2:43 mark when Erik Gustafsson finally lit the lamp. The 1 – 0 win didn’t leave me wondering why the Caps struggled to score because all three lines were affected to make room for Tom Wilson and Nick Backstrom. Wilson and Backstrom returned together, as Backstrom returned alongside Ovechkin with the first line, and Wilson took the right wing for the second line.
Neither line found a lick of consistency, and the Caps totaled 19 shots on goal for the entire night, getting outshot 38 – 19 but Columbus. I guarantee these last two days of practice have been about getting guys time to get used to each other again. You may not think it takes time to gel, but we just saw the effect on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the Flyers are skating with vim and vigor lately, having taken wins from 5 of their last 6 games. One thing we have to notice is that weak schedule though, as none of those wins came against teams above.500. The one team who handed them the loss in this run was Toronto, who dumped six goals on the flyers in a convincing win.
The Flyers shut out Buffalo on Monday night, 4 – 0, but Carter Hart was right where you would expect him to be when something like that happens. Watching from the sidelines!
Carter Hart is a complete mess, and the last 8 times he’s been in the net the Over flew in all but once! I am never going to expect Carter Hart to shut down any offense, and this total is only listed at a straight 6. Darcy Kuemper is expected to start for the Caps tonight, and the fact that he has won two straight outings makes me want to fade him immediately. This dude gets lit up more often than a Bic lighter at a stoner’s convention, and I expect that to carry over into this match.

For me, a straight 6 on this total is not even a thought but to put in the bet and expect twine to be found early and often. I apologize for the Habs performance on Monday because they made me look bad, and it cost us a pair of tickets.
Let’s bag these goals early and hope it is 3 – 3 before the 3rd-period even arrives. I want to suggest the Flyers ML at 2.50, but I will settle for this total, and I hope it’s the right choice because I need a win around here lately.
