Philadelphia Flyers vs New York Rangers Best Bet: Wednesday, March 1st

The NY Rangers will be attempting to sweep the season series with the Flyers on Wednesday night, and the way Philadelphia is playing right now it should come easily. Our resident pucks expert Ej Garr covers the Rangers like no one else, and we expect him to produce a winning tip to start the new month.

Philadelphia Flyers vs NY Rangers Preview

March 2, 00:35 (UK time)

This will be the third and final meeting between the Rangers and Flyers this season, and we know there will be no playoff battle to come because the Flyers stink! As a Rangers fan, I love saying that because there is no love lost between New Yorkers and folks from the City of Brotherly Love. Whoever coined that phrase has never actually been to Philadelphia! HA!

The Rangers will be playing five of their next six games on the road, but the last time they visited Philly the Blue Shirts pounded out 6 goals in a convincing win, 6 – 3. The Rangers have taken two points in six of the last seven meetings with the Flyers and the line setters are pointing to another convincing win showing a 1.54 on the Moneyline odds. As you know, we don’t play around with those types of lines around here because the Mayor of Value City has a reputation to uphold.

I am turning to the Blue Shirts team total in this spot for a few reasons. First of all, the Flyers have not held their last seven opponents to less than 4 goals scored. The last time Philly took the ice they got smashed to bits by New Jersey, 7 – 0, and I fully expect a similar result tonight.

It is quite clear that the Flyers are looking to next season knowing that this year is a complete wash, but they will do their best to not let the Rangers walk in here and find an easy win. What they hope to do and what they can do are two entirely different stories because I doubt they planned on letting New Jersey kick their ass like that the other night.

I am still wondering what Coach Gerrard is doing moving players around and switching lines again because he just gets so unwilling to let players take the time they need to build camaraderie. Will Patty Kane be coming over to the Blue Shirts? Let’s be honest here because I don’t miss a second of Rangers games.

DEFENSE, MAN!!! BRING US SOME DAMN DEFENSIVE-MINDED PLAYERS! Yeah, I am yelling and if my editors would let me curse I might bust out an F-Bomb or two because I am sick of it! We know we have all the offensive talent we need to be successful but the Rangers need to sure up their back line and fast!

Igor Shesterkin is far from the netminder he was a season ago winning the Vezina Award, and he needs help to limit the shots being thrown at him. A goalie is only as good as the guys in front of him, and although I love the addition of Niko Mikkola because of his size, I still think there is more work to do to fill the back line. It shouldn’t be a factor tonight against a terrible Philly team, but the Rangers have some big games on the horizon including rivalry week.

March 12 – 18 the Rangers will play three games with the Penguins mixed in with a match against the Caps, and back-to-back games with Carolina will follow that up. That will be the deciding factor for my boys because we are not in a safe position. Sure, the 77 points look great in third place in the Metropolitan standings, but all of that could be in jeopardy with a poor finish to the campaign. It’s not how you start, baby, it’s how you finish!

The Islanders and Penguins are right on the Rangers’ tail within 10 points, and those Sabres in the Atlantic are starting to make a big push for the playoffs.

Philadelphia Flyers vs NY Rangers Best Bet

If the Rangers don’t pour it on the Flyers I will be questioning their ability to finish the campaign strongly. These are the games we have to have and finding 4 goals is easily obtainable tonight with a fair line attached to the action at 1.95.

  • Selection: NY Rangers Team Total Over 3.5 Goals
  • Best odds: 1.95 (Marathon)
  • Stakes: 4/10

Odds as of 9:00 am March 1st, 2023. Odds may now differ.
