The Senators are in the midst of a 5-game home stand, and if scoring goals tickles your fancy then you should probably stay up and watch this match. I know midnight is late for you folks in Europe, and I don’t know how many of you stay up to watch hockey in the United States either.
Since returning to Canada for the first three games on home ice for Ottawa, they’ve scored 18 goals after only scoring a combined 3 goals to open the season from trips to Buffalo and Toronto. Another poor effort against Toronto followed up the 4 – 1 loss to Buffalo on opening night, and I think many of us were wondering what the Sens would do upon returning home 0 – 2.
Well, so far, so good, and the boost in scoring at home has increased the Sens ranking to 13th in the NHL averaging 3.8 goals a night now. The Brady Tkachuk – Drake Batherson – Tim Stutzle 1st line is playing about as well as a trio can play coming into Monday night’s game.
Tkachuk scored a power-play goal and an even-strength goal in the win over Arizona last time out, and the three players combined to contribute 6 points to the 6 – 2 win. Also, hello, giving up penalties much? That line is also guilty of committing a few penalties that lead to short-handed situations, and that suits us well because my eye is on this total.
Ottawa is grooving and even their second line is getting points on top of the Senators’ defense pitching in offensively, so all around at the moment they all feel good and everyone wants to see their name on the score sheet.
Dallas was an under machine to start the regular season, but I caught Saturday night’s game and I was wondering if things would stay that way for long. Dallas poured in 5 goals against Montreal, and this team has been doing this from the get-go. Sure, the unders are hitting because the Dallas netminders are playing well, but it’s not from a lack of scoring.
The Dallas offense ranks 10th in the league also averaging 3.8 goals per game, which is exactly what Ottawa is doing right now. Remember, averages with about 5 games in the books mean squadoosh if you get into it, but I know people love their stats.
I mentioned Dallas’ goalie situation is outstanding, and well, Dallas is the number 1 defense in the league because of it. Dallas is only giving up 1.5 goals per outing right now, but none of that happened against a hot Ottawa team in Canada.
Stars goalie Jake Oettinger has been an absolute stud out of the gate, making 4 starts for Dallas holding a .959 save %. He is only giving up 1.3 goals per outing, and he is the one concern I have about this total.

Oettinger might not get lit up anytime soon, but this is still a game in that I expect to see 6 goals. Pinnacle is showing me 1.826 as I put this in to be posted, so I hope that line is still there when you get to it.
