FLORIDA PANTHERS VS NEW YORK RANGERS: A ROAD DOG TO START THE NIGHT
The New York Rangers will be playing two games in Florida on back-to-back nights, as they’ll face the Panthers tonight and the Tampa Bay Lightning tomorrow night. My Blue Shirts are enjoying first place in the Metropolitan Division at the moment, and here they are as slight underdogs against the Panthers.
The Panthers have quietly been gaining steam lately, as they now only trail the Boston Bruins by four points for the lead in the Atlantic Division table.
This game is going to be a good one to watch, and you know I won’t be missing a puck drop on MSG when these two get together. What’s standing out to me is the 3 – 0 that the Rangers posted against this Florida team last season, and although the Panthers made their miracle run in last year’s post-season, the Rangers are the team to beat right now.
This is not a homer pick, and you know by now that I don’t just put Ranger Moneylines on the board without having good reasons to do so. I don’t bet on my favourite team unless I feel they have a damn good chance to win, and I believe that tonight we have the goods to beat Florida.
Mika Zibanejad has finally picked up the pace of his campaign, and boy, has it driven us Ranger fans nuts waiting for him to break out of his early-season scoring slump. Over the last 8 games, Mika has scored at least one goal in 6 of those contests, and he has an 8-game point streak going as we enter this Friday night tilt in the Sunshine State.
I expect Igor Shesterkin to play tonight and Jonathan Quick to start tomorrow night’s game in Tampa, and talk about a pair of net mnders who are playing well! Both of my guys are why the Rangers are the current favourites to win the Stanley Cup, and I am okay with that, HA!
I am calling for a 3 – 2 Rangers win in a low-scoring game, so the plus-money offer on the Blue Shirts goes on the board to start the night.
- Selection: NY Rangers Moneyline
- Best Odds: 2.05
- Bookmaker: bet365
- Stakes: 4/10
OTTAWA SENATORS VS NEW JERSEY DEVILS: A GOAL-SCORING BONANZA
Well, the damn Maple Leafs kept us from cashing the Wednesday night NHL parlay, and somehow the Senators earned a win after going down 2 – 0 in the first period. Toronto fell apart at the seams from there and never scored again, and I fell one goal shy from a perfect night.
I am going right back to the well when it comes to Senator totals because the Devils are in town tonight. The Devils escaped with two points against Columbus last time on the ice, and yet another 7 goals hit the scoreboard. That puts the Devils’ totals this year at 20 – 12 to the over, while putting up a 10 – 5 record on the road this year.
This is the first meeting between these teams this season, and I can only hope that they give us a repeat of what we saw when they met three times a year ago. The Devils scored 14 goals en route to sweeping the Senators in the season series, New Jersey scored 5 goals twice, and although that was last year, I see no reason why it won’t carry over into their series this season.
As much as it pained me to watch Ottawa shut down Toronto en route to a 4 – 2 win on Wednesday night, I think that gives the Sens the momentum they’ll need to score plenty of goals tonight at home. The line setters don’t want to yip their hand as to which team will win this game, as I see 1.91 for either team to win on the Moneyline.
If all we get is a 4 – 3 game here, I won’t lose any sleep over it as we push our action and live to bet another day.
- Selection: Total Over 7 Goals – OT-Included
- Best Odds:1.95
- Bookmaker: bet365
- Stakes: 4/10
ST. LOUIS BLUES VS COLORADO AVALANCHE: A HOME DOG READY TO BARK
And here is the upset call of the day. At 2.40, I am going on that limb to suggest that we play the Blues at home on Friday night against the Avs.
Is it a ballsy play? Well, of course, it is because the Avalanche are favoured despite that weak effort against the Coyotes on Wednesday night. I don’t know how many teams have taken a 4-goal lead only to lose the hockey game, but that’s exactly what just happened to the Avalanche against Arizona.
I have already stated many times that Alex Georgiev is not going to get Colorado to a title this season or any season. Watching him fold like a lawn chair against Arizona only made that fact stand out more for me.
The only building that St. Louis seems to be able to win at is this place, and their 11 – 5 record at home isn’t too shabby for a team struggling to find wins, but 37 points for the season really isn’t that bad when you look at all the teams around them.
St, Louis needs to keep taking advantage of home ice if this is where they find wins, and at 2.40 I love the offer to boost our combo to nearly 10.00. Expect a surprising home win for the Blues on Friday night, as I will be watching to see how Colorado recovers from losing a game that they led 4 – 0!
- Selection: St. Louis Blues Moneyline
- Best Odds: 2.40
- Bookmaker: bet365
- Stakes: 4/10
