TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS VS OTTAWA SENATORS: A CANADIAN GOALS FESTIVAL
We’re back from the Holiday break, and out of the 14 games being played tonight, the first one that hit me was this one. Knowing the total would be inflated, I was hoping to see a straight 7 on the board and that’s exactly what I got. At 1.91, that is not even close to a problem for me because I expect that number to go up, and some sites might jump this total to 7.5.
Gee, why? Well, let’s not act like we don’t know why because this game is going to be full of goal-scoring and the Maple Leaf fans are in for a treat. The line setters expect a convincing win for the home team listing them with odds of 1.60 to just win the game on the Moneyline.
Taking two points from Ottawa has happened in 6 of their last 8 games, and the losses have simply been piling up for the Senators. Sure, they got out of the loss column with a 5 – 4 overtime win over Pittsburgh before the break, but I don’t think it will give them some momentum.
Ottawa still gave up four goals to the Pengs, and the Senators defe… wait, no, it won’t be me! You know me by now, and I just can’t use the words in the same sentence because Ottawa has been a sieve lately.
Over the last seven games before Christmas, Ottawa gave up no less than four goals to all seven of their opponents, and the Leafs are going to take full advantage of it tonight.
By the way, my favourite bookmaker in Europe before we American’s got screwed was BWin, and I know Bet365 is our main sponsor here but I am making a point. BWin is offering 2.68 on the Over 8 with OT-Included, and you know what happened the last time I suggested you do that, right? Buffalo and Toronto went absolutely bonkers and I predicted there would be no less than 11 goals.
There were 12 goals scored in Buffalo that night, and we might have a similar situation here. Play this total however you like your money back because you will be getting paid whether you settle for the straight 7 or push it out to a straight 8.
MINNESOTA WILD VS DETROIT RED WINGS: GOING WILD BIG AT HOME
Let’s not fool around with Moneyline or totals here. The Minnesota Wild are going to hand Detroit another loss and I believe it will also be in convincing fashion. I am usually one to think underdog because it’s in my nature, but this game has me thinking that Minnesota’s confidence has got to be sky-high.
I assume the entire Wild organization enjoyed their Holiday break after winning their last three games, two of which came against Boston. The Wild has won six of their last seven games, and they are catching a Red Wings squad that is struggling to find anything good to talk about.
Detroit has lost eight of their last ten games, and all that success to start the campaign is slowly dwindling. Michael Hutchinson made his first start between the pipes against New Jersey in the Red Wings last game before Christmas, and injuries to both Alex Lyon and Ville Husso will have Detroit dealing with an issue with their goal-keeping situation.
James Reimer will likely start tonight, and now he must feel the pressure of being the #1 guy for the immediate future. Reimer has only appeared in 11 games this season, so between him and Hutchinson, it could be a long night for the Red Wings’ defense.
This Puckline price is just too good to let sit there without my attention, and at 2.65 it is going to boost our combo odds tremendously. Whether you put it in the NHL Wednesday Night Parlay or not, play it regardless because the Wild should be able to stifle Detroit while scoring plenty of goals at home tonight.
LOS ANGELES KINGS VS SAN JOSE SHARKS: THE SHARKS NET IS BROKEN
This total is only 1.91 for the straight 6 with OT included, and I couldn’t believe my eyes when I scrolled down to the final game of the night in the NHL. The Kings outscored the Sharks 19 – 8 in their last meeting, all of which ended up as a win for the Kings in this Pacific Coast rivalry.
Another team that should be accused of not playing defense is the Sharks, and it if gets much worse we might as well just put in the next 10 San Jose Overs now. I know the lines aren’t up yet, but have you seen how bad the Sharks look on the defensive side of the ice?
All you have to watch a period of Sharks hockey to see that they will make a handful of mistakes that lead to transition goal-scoring opportunities for the other team, and LA will feast on that!
San Jose is allowing 4.01 GPG, and the Kings average 3.53 GPG, so that is the first trend in our favour when these two hook up on Wednesday night.
Pheonix Copley will be out for a few weeks, so that means that Cam Talbot will be seeing most of the time between the pipes for the Kings. David Rittich is the only other goaltender on the Kings roster, so we shall see how much time he gets on the ice soon. The Kings play three games in four days to end December, so Talbot will have to sit out one of those games we would imagine.
I expect this to be a high-scoring game that gets started with goals right away, and I wouldn’t be shocked if the Kings put up five of the six we need to splash this total. Adrian Kempe needs one more goal to become the fourth Kings player with double-digit goals, and he’s been held off the score sheet for the last 6 games. Let’s see if he breaks out tonight and gets that 10th goal of the campaign for the Kings.
Expect loss #6 in a row for the Sharks, and another home favourite to clean house tonight in Los Angeles.
