NHL Picks for Wednesday, October 11th: 6.93 Over/Under Parlay for Wednesday Evening
The 2023-24 NHL campaign drops the puck with a trio of games on Tuesday night, but opening day continues on Wednesday as twelve teams begin their new season. With a trifecta of bets to offer on Wednesday night, our resident pucks expert Ej Garr is back for another season at Bettingexpert, and we’re all happy he’s here again.
After a stellar season of making our readers good money last year, Ej is belting out a 6.93 parlay with three totals he expects to land, so let’s take the ice and break in a new season in the NHL!
- Carolina Hurricanes vs Ottawa Senators Under 6
- Toronto Maple Leafs vs Montreal Canadiens Over 6.5
- Los Angeles Kings vs Colorado Avalanche Over 6.5
NHL Parlay Odds: 6.93

CAROLINA HURRICANES VS OTTAWA SENATORS: A LOW-SCORING AFFAIR
The Canes and Sens open their season on Wednesday night and one thing I don’t expect to see a lot of is scoring in this affair. If there was any indication why I feel that way, the pre-season was a bit revealing from the Hurricanes aspect as five of their six pre-season games all saw 6 goals or less scored.
While the Canes offence was a standout for this team last year, it is obvious to me that the defensive side of the ice was addressed in the off-season to prepare for 2023-24. Even when you have a dynamic offence, if you can’t stop your opponent enough to win games, it is useless. I see a low-scoring game taking place between these two on Wednesday night.
The Under 6 has odds of 1.95 at most major sportsbooks, and if this was last year I would have left this as my only bet to make but this season we are changing things up here at Bettingexpert. My editors have asked me to expand to parlays and combos this season, and I am okay with that for the most part.
Additionally, let’s not forget that these two teams met 3 times last year, and all 3 of those games easily cashed the under. Some teams just play each other a certain way, and these two teams have proven to me that they aren’t getting into some kind of shootout, meaning full of goals, not a literal shootout that we see at the end of a game.
Until that changes, we play the total under the 6 goals with a fair price of 1.95.
TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS VS MONTREAL CANADIENS: EXPECT HORNS TO BLOW
While I don’t expect much scoring to go down in Carolina on Wednesday night, these next two games have me seeing a completely different result.
The Leafs and Habs played three times this pre-season, and their last meeting on October 2 was full of goals and fantastic efforts from each offence. If I am being honest, I expect both of these clubs to be producing goals in droves in 2023, and I might be pointing us to the Over when either of them takes the ice as the campaign skates on.
Toronto is likely starting Ilya Samasonov in net while the Habs are expecting Jake Allen to get the opening skate nod on Wednesday, Samsonov put together a nice campaign last year with his 27 – 10 – 5 record, but I don’t trust Jake Allen in the least. Allen had to unfortunately play on a bad Habs team a season ago, and his 3.55 GAA certainly lends to the concern I have for the season opener on the road.
Neither of these goalkeepers was involved in the pre-season affair that ended 5 – 4 on October 2, but I think these two offences will still find success en route to a 4 – 3 type of game. Even if we need some overtime hockey to get there, 7 pucks will end up in the back of the net to help us cash this Over 6.5 on Wednesday night. I expect Toronto’s Auston Mathews and company to be licking their chops facing Allen, so it might be more like a 5 – 3 affair with 8 or even more goals being scored to start the new season. The Over 6.5 is a little spendy at 1.80, but that is why I am adding it to this parlay to eliminate the juice.
I can only assume that you remember what I did here last season. I didn’t post one bet with odds past 1.83 in my single bet offers because we don’t work for Tropicana, and juice is for kids!! HA!
LOS ANGELES KINGS VS COLORADO AVALANCHE: GOALS GALORE
The same goes here in the Kings vs Avalanche game, as this 6.5 total to fly over is nothing to fear as far as I am concerned. Over the last six pre-season games preparing for the campaign opener tonight, the Kings scored at least 4 goals in five of those affairs.
Also, these two clubs met twice last year and two times in 2022, and we saw no less than 7 goals in any of those games. As I mentioned previously, certain teams just seem to play each other a certain way, and flying around the ice and finding the net seems to be the norm.
This might be the highest-scoring game of the six-game slate we have on Wednesday night, so putting this bet on the card was an easy decision for me. The line on the Over 6.5 is again 1.95 at most books, so playing this bet on its own is certainly fine by me. If you are not a fan of betting parlays as combos, this is the bet to make to ensure you make some money on Hump Day.
I am not kidding when I say that I expect no less than a 5 – 4 game here, and we might even see an empty net or a 5 – 5 score when the final regulation-time goal finds the net late in the match. That’s 10, at least, and they will get there!
