NEW JERSEY DEVILS VS PHILADELPHIA FLYERS: AN UPSET BREWING AT THE PRU
We have the makings of an upset on Tuesday night, and I must admit that the 2.40 offer from the line setters is rather generous.
First of all, let me start with how much I hate both of these teams. Being the Rangers fan that I am, I am always happy when either of them loses, but someone’s got to win, right? HA!
Well, the line was my first reason to jump on the Flyers, and I will admit I sat here and watched the Ducks just make New Jersey look stupid on Sunday. A 5 – 1 Duks win, at home no less, has me questioning the Devils, and the Flyers are still playing some pretty damn good hockey lately.
The Flyers have won six of their last seven games, and I also got to watch the Red Wings game on Saturday, which was another impressive win for Philly. A 1 – 0 win is always impressive because it shows discipline and a defensive ability to shut tough opponents down and get wins.
A pair of wins over the Penguins and another impressive win against Colorado also shows how much this Flyers team has improved from what we are used to seeing over recent years. Anyone who follows this sport knows that the Flyers have been basement dwellers in their division over the last three years, and this turnaround has Philly fans excited to watch their team again.
Over the last ten games, the Flyers’ penalty-killing unit has been outstanding, as they have only allowed two goals from their last 32 chances being a man down. With New Jersey only having scored once over their last 18 power plays, I don’t expect the Devils to have much success with a man advantage tonight.
I have the Flyers to win this game 4 – 3, and the 2.40 offer is a great way to start an NHL Parlay or just play it on its own. I always suggest that you play each bet on its own, but we also like to show the combo odds should I break out another 3 – 0 night in the NHL.
NASHVILLE PREDATORS VS VANCOUVER CANUCKS: PREDS OUT FOR REVENGE
Revenge, baby, it’s a powerful thing, and I think the Preds didn’t forget the first two meetings with Vancouver this season. When the season began in October, Vancouver and Nashville played twice in a week, and the Canucks handed the Preds losses each time.
That means that the Predators need to return the favour and hand the Canucks their walking papers on Tuesday night. Nashville is riding a modest 4-game win streak into this game, as they have also won 7 of their last eight games overall.
Having won their last three home games, Nashville improved to 11 – 6 at home this season, and the best place to play Vancouver is when you get them on your ice. Vancouver has struggled on the road this season a bit, although they are still 9 – 6 overall in their travels.
Both squads have been scoring on the man advantage when they get their opportunities lately, and I expect this to be a high-scoring game that ends with the Preds earning two points, whether it takes overtime or a shootout to get there.
This is the third of four straight road games for Vancouver, and after losing a shootout to Minnesota, the Canucks barely scraped past Chicago last time on the ice, 4 – 3. Chicago scored twice playing up a man, and Nashville will get their chances tonight to score on the power play.
The Canucks offense is still #1 in the league averaging 3.8 GPG, and their defense ranks 2nd in the NHL, holding opponents to 2.4 GPG. The Preds defense holds opponents to 3 GPG, which ranks them 12th overall in the NHL.
Nashville is quietly putting together a season in which they are only four points out of first place in their division, and this is a big spot for the home team to exact some revenge for the pair of losses earlier in October.
CHICAGO BLACKHAWKS VS COLORADO AVALANCHE: PUCKS FLY AT UNITED CENTER
The Pucks will be flying at the United Center on Tuesday night, and I just got done discussing the last game Chicago played against Vancouver.
The Canucks came away with a 4 – 3 win, and now the Blackhawks have lost their last four games in a season that is becoming forgettable in Chicago. With only 19 points this year, Chicago is 9 points back of Minnesota in their division table and looking up at the entire pack from the basement.
That’s not just the lowest point total in the division; it’s the lowest in the entire NHL, so maybe a high draft pick could be the best thing this campaign produces. Having Colorado in town spells big trouble, and when you’re giving up four goals a game, the last team you need to see across the ice is the Avalanche.
70 – 109! That’s the +/- for the Blackhawks on the scoreboard in 2023, and when you are outscored at that kind of clip, the losses will, and are, adding up. The Avalanche puck line -1.5 is only listed at 1.95, and I pity the fool who lets that go unnoticed.
Get that on your board because this is going to get a thumping and a half on Tuesday night when Colorado gets the Hawks. Ready for this prediction?
SNOWMEN will be made in Windy City tonight, and that means that Colorado will be banking eight goals tonight before the final horn blows. Land that -1.5, and be sure to add this total to your card, which I’ll make the main play for the game.
