NEW JERSEY DEVILS VS BUFFALO SABRES: A GOAL-SCORING FESTIVAL IN THE GARDEN STATE
The New Jersey Devils take on the Buffalo Sabres tonight at Prudential Center. The Devils have played six games thus far in the campaign, and all six of those games have seen no less than seven goals scored. First of all, that is an amazing stat, and secondly, I think that we need to play the trend until it stops.
I have always been of the mindset that if I see a trend happening and it continues to happen, I will play it until it stops. I hate seeing things happen 7-10-12 times, and then looking back at it with the thought of why wasn’t I on top of that when it was happening.
Well, it’s happening now, and the Devils can’t seem to figure out how to win games in their building lately. At 1 – 3 at home, the Devils have gotten skunked in all three of their last three home games, and they’ve allowed no less than four goals to any of those opponents. The Coyotes found a 4 – 3 win in overtime here, the Panthers earned the same 4 – 3 result, and I don’t even know what happened the last time they skated.
I say that because it is unbelievable to allow 6 goals to the Washington Capitals, and that’s exactly what happened on Wednesday night. Washington has scored the fewest goals in the Eastern Conference with only 13 pucks that have landed in the net, and then they break out for 6 of those in one game against New Jersey?
That’s just something I can’t ignore, and Buffalo doesn’t have a damn thing to be intimidated by in this building. The Sabres just dumped 6 goals on the Ottawa Senators the last time they skated on Tuesday night, and now both of these teams are on the same ice.
Over me, and expect 7 goals and then some from this game in the Garden State on Friday night
VEGAS GOLDEN Knights VS CHICAGO BLACKHAWKS: KNIGHTS AS HOT AS IT GETS
Our second pick of the night comes from the Vegas Golden Knights vs Chicago Blackhawks game. It is hard to fade the Knights right now, and at 7 – 0 to open the season I am not about to expect that to change against a weak Blackhawks squad. I hope I won’t be the one who ends up snapping their run because I am about to suggest that we take the -1.5 handicap on the home team tonight.
If I am being honest, I rarely ever make these bets with my own hard-earned money because more often than not when you think a team will win by multiple goals, the dog usually pulls the upset. Fortunately, Chicago has no fight in them at 2 – 5 to open the season, and Vegas has a 28 – 13 goal differential through their first seven games.
That means that they’ve allowed less than two goals a game, and the Blackhawks are averaging exactly that themselves through seven games played. With 14 goals banked, Chicago has shown no signs of continuity or teamwork, and it looks like it might be another season that is one to forget in Chicago this year.
The Blackhawks barely finished ahead of the Anaheim Ducks with 1-point to spare in last year’s regular season, and so far it looks like we might have a repeat of that in 2023-24.
Adin Hill is listed as the probable netminder for the Knights on Friday night, and his 4 – 0 record with a stellar 1.73 GAA gives me confidence that this should be a big win at home for Vegas. In case you missed my recent odds update on the winner of the Stanley Cup, Vegas opened the season barely in the top-5 of the odds board, and yet now they are just about the favourites because of the hot start.
With Carolina falling apart, they are no longer anywhere near the top of the board as they were before the season started, and Colorado just picked up their first loss of the new campaign last night in ugly fashion. I mentioned that Vegas would be a great bet to repeat as Stanley Cup champs because this team has constantly been succeeding since joining the league.
I have Vegas winning this game 5 – 2, so let’s see how she pans out!
ARIZONA COYOTES VS LOS ANGELES KINGS: A REMATCH WITH PLENTY OF GOALS
The Coyotes and Kings just skated against each other on Tuesday night in LA, and now they switch venues and lace them up again tonight. The Kings came away with a 6 – 3 win in convincing fashion, and the goals started coming early and often. It was 3 – 1 Kings at the end of the first period, and the scoring just continued from there.
The Kings had six different players tally a goal in the win, as the penalties just kept adding up too. There were nine power plays in the game with neither team having discipline, and I don’t see why we won’t see a similar result on Friday night.
I think Arizona has a good chance to return the favour and take down the Kings tonight, and Karel Vejmelka is a good reason why I feel that way. Amazing to hear those words right?
Vejmelka has been a full-blown disaster the last two seasons with the Yotes but something seems to have changed with his game. This guy was given the job to carry this team to wherever they go this season, and all he has done is responded positively to all of it.
At 2 – 2 with a 1.85 GAA, Vejmelka was the goalie on Tuesday night that got lit up for 5 goals with an empty-netter accounting for the sixth goal in the loss, 6 – 3. While his confidence may be growing, that result sure didn’t boost my confidence in him quite yet.
Mrazek and Vejmelka are both going to give up at least 3 goals tonight and that 3 – 3 score is all we need to splash this Over 6.5 with overtime included. Marathon is offering a 2.20 line on the Coyotes to win this game, and my underdog mindset of mine loves that to happen tonight.
I see a 4 – 3 Coyotes win coming here with goals filling the score sheet as well, so play the over in the 3-game combo you see above, and think about grabbing the home team to win this game as dogs for an extra boost to your bankroll.
