NHL Parlay Picks for Friday, October 13: 3.80 Odds Parlay for Friday
There are only two NHL games on the Friday night schedule, and our resident pucks pundit Ej Garr will have them both covered like a blanket! After a 2 – 1 output on Wednesday night with his hockey totals at work, he points us in that direction again on Friday night.
The Devils jumped out of the gate with a win last night over the Detroit Red Wings at home, 4 – 3, so they will have to lace up again to welcome the Arizona Coyotes to the Garden State on Friday night.
The Penguins blew a 2 – 0 lead only to lose against the Chicago BlackHawks to open their 2023-24 campaign, and they’ll head to our Nation’s capitol on Friday night to face the Caps who are playing their first game of the season tonight.

NEW JERSEY DEVILS vs ARIZONA COYOTES: LIGHT THE SCOREBOARD UP ON FRIDAY NIGHT
After putting up a perfect pre-season record to prepare for the beginning of the 2023-24 NHL campaign, the New Jersey Devils carried that momentum into an opening day win on Thursday night over the Detroit Red Wings, 4 – 3.
En route to a spotless 7 – 0 record during pre-season action, the Devils outscored their opponents 26 – 11, and now they are 1 – 0 to start the new season. Having to lace up the skates on back-to-back nights so early in the year shouldn’t have a major effect on the Devils because we are just getting started, and there are no tired legs to worry about quite yet.
Not that it’s an ideal situation, but I honestly don’t think that playing again so soon will do anything but add to the momentum that New Jersey has to start the year.
After the Red Wings ripped off the first goal of the game on Thursday night against the Devils, Jack Hughes tallied the next two goals of the game for New Jersey, and the Devils carried a 2 – 1 lead into the third period. The final frame saw a pair of goals scored by both teams, but the empty netter for the Devils that made it 4 – 2 with 1:30 to play essentially sealed the home win for New Jersey. Although the Red Wings did score to make it close with 30 seconds to play when Robbi scored a late power-play goal, the Devils still got outshot 35 – 27 by Detroit.
The Coyotes are dropping the puck on the 2023-24 campaign on Friday night, and they are well rested after wrapping up the pre-season with a 7 – 1 win over the Anaheim Ducks on October 7. The Ducks and Coyotes played 3 times against each other to conclude pre-season play, and the Coyotes won the final two meetings to carry a bit of momentum into this road game on Friday night.
I think New Jersey will be just fine again on home ice, and I can foresee another 4 – 3 type of game transpiring here. Bet365 is showing a 1.87 on the Over 6.5 with overtime included, and if you don’t make this bet on its own, you can add the Capitals Moneyline to scoop up a 3.80 combo to cash.
WASHINGTON CAPITALS vs Pittsburgh Penguins: Capitals Start of With a Win
Alex Ovechkin is just 73 goals away from reaching The Great One’s scoring record, and he is entering his 19th NHL season in 2023. The Great 8 isn’t trying to make that the topic of conversation around camp though, because the record is what it is and he just wants to be in the post-season again this year.
You can run around the net and find many an interview with Ovechkin of late in which he reveals as much to the media, as he really just wants the chance to lift that damn, sweet trophy again before he retires. It will take another season of play to grab 73 goals but he would have no problem if he only manages to put up another 50-goal campaign in 2023.
Hey, you know what? Let’s not forget that this maniac wearing the #8 sweater from Russia did score 72 goals in the 2004-05 season including the playoffs, 65 of which came in the regular season. Ovi has accumulated 9 seasons in which he was a 50-goal scorer in the regular season, the last just came in the 2021-22 season.
I don’t think that anyone will question his motivation because he is going to just keep scoring until his blades go dull and he hangs up the skates.
Meanwhile, Ovi and Syd have had their many battles over the years, and here comes another one of those on Friday night. If you read my NHL Stanley Cup Futures article that got posted this week, you will notice that I once again have the Penguins missing out on the post-season after the collapse from a season ago. Oh, I called for that collapse last year, by the way! Did you cash my Pittsburgh Penguins Futures bet to miss the playoffs in 2023 that I posted at the All-Star break last year? The Odds were only 4.20 for that call! ONLY, HA!
I offered the Penguins Team Points Total Under to my YouTube subscribers on Monday this past week, and then the flop to start the year made me smile so big! Chicago and Pittsburgh met a couple of days ago to start the season, and after jumping out to a 2 – 0 lead, the BlackHawks scored the next 4 goals to send Pittsburgh packing with a loss.
So the line setters want to try to convince anyone that the Penguins should be favoured against the Capitals now? Is that a joke, or do you know how much I love to bet on the underdogs by now? Washington is listed at 2.06 dogs at home, and all that does is make me laugh expecting another flop by the Penguins tonight.
With the 2.05 odds here on the Caps ML along with the 1.87 on my total above, the parlay you could cash features odds of 3.80. Whether you play these two bets in a combo or not, you can expect the Caps to win this game at home while starting the year 1 – 0 after thumping the Penguins on Friday night.
