NHL Hockey Friday Best Bets: Let’s Make it a Double
NHL Hockey Friday Best Bets: Friday, February 24th
Our resident pucks pundit Ej Garr is doing double duty today, as he has two matches picked out from the small 6-game slate on Friday night in the NHL. As usual, the man seems to make a habit if posting plus money lines, and he’s doing it again today. We think he has earned his Mayor of Value City status, and we hope you are enjoying the ride!

Philadelphia Flyers vs Montreal Canadiens Preview

Does someone want to explain how the hell the Flyers are favoured or would you like to me laugh about it and tell you why we’re fading the home team again in this spot? If you look at the Eastern Conference standings at the moment, the Flyers are actually still ahead of the Habs, but the way Montreal is playing right now they should be able to catch and pass the Flyers in short order.
These two teams are separated by four points near the bottom of the conference table, but I see Montreal as the better team at the moment. This is not about the campaign as a whole because it is simply about tonight’s game and what’s at stake. I care none about what has transpired to this point because both of these organizations have been relatively terrible all season.
For me, I got to watch the Habs against New Jersey the other night and that 5 – 2 win was pretty impressive considering Montreal only took 18 shots on goal the entire match. And if I am being honest, when I saw the 1.72 odds on the Flyers all I could think was who in their right mind puts that much juice on Philly to win this game, or any game for that matter.
Despite having 12 players on the injury report, the Habs are managing to piece together enough to form some good teamwork. This may not be the team they wanted to have on the ice when the campaign began, but there’s no crying in hockey.
When we look over the last six Habs outings, the only two losses they have suffered came by the Leafs and Canes, which are both headed to the playoffs and playing well themselves right now. That win over Edmonton combined with that win over the Isles has inspired this Habs team to a respectable level and I have not seen that from the Flyers in weeks, if not all season.
Both teams are on the front end of a back-to-back night scenario, and the Flyers are 2 – 7 in their last 9 games in this situation. At 1 – 5 over their last 6 outings coming into this game, it gives me zero confidence that the Flyers can take even a point from this game, much less both of them.

If you think the Flyers deserve your money at 1.72 then you can have it! It won’t be me nor will it be anyone who follows me either. I have plus money attached to my action and that’s right where I want to be because my ROI deserves it.

I am doing it again! I have fallen in love with Marathon Sportsbook and it’s because they offer the best lines on my new favourite prop bet. I have been handing out these types of bets all month and not only is my 13 – 2 record in February impressive but the lines I have been dishing out are top-notch.
I see this as another opportunity to fade the Jets as I did last night against the Islanders, which you can see on my social profile here on the site as DrKnow. I am using our site to post some plays and I have revamped my Twitter feed which you can find on my profile page.
As is the case with these two teams, they are also separated by four points in the Western Conference table while also being a Divisional game to boot. I find it amazing that the Winnipeg totals are 14 – 40 to the Under but yet they have scored eight more goals than Colorado has this campaign.
I think anyone who follows hockey expects the Colorado offense to be in-sync every night because of the talent on their roster, but they have also hit 32 of their 52 Unders this year as well. As you look over the rankings, these two teams are mirror images of each other in so many ways.
Both defenses rank in the top 10 in goals allowed, while they each score 3.1 goals per game so this is an even battle for sure.
Over the Avs last five games, they have won four of them and that 6 – 5 madness win over Edmonton last time out was a big-time comeback effort. The Oilers jumped out to a 3 – 0 lead early in the second period and carried a 4 – 2 lead into the final period.
It was obvious that the Avalanche had no interest in losing that game, as Nate MacKinnon scored just 26 seconds into the final stanza. Edmonton scored to go up 5 – 3 but it was the Avs who tallied twice with two different lines and yet there were no power-play goals scored in the entire match by either side.
With only 22 seconds left in overtime, Mikko Rantanen found twine to give Colorado a 3-game win streak and momentum headed towards Winnipeg tonight. I think they’ll take that momentum and carry it to another win tonight and I have zero doubt that they’ll both score a few times. This could easily be a 4 – 4 game and I wouldn’t be shocked in the least, but I’ll trust the Av’s offense to find away to earn them two points and come away with the W.
Winnipeg Jets vs Colorado Avalanche Best Bet
Avs win 5 – 4 in another high-scoring affair even though these are two of the better defenses on paper. I am not going to touch the total bbecause you see the line at 2.47 for the Colorado win + BTTS. Have a nice weekend and be on the lookout for my Saturday college hoops article!
