New York Rangers vs Vancouver Canucks Best Bet: Back at the Garden
New York Rangers vs Vancouver Canucks Best Bet: Wednesday, February 8th
The New York Rangers are back at Madison Square Garden for their Wednesday bout with the Vancouver Canucks, and our resident pucks expert Ej Garr is in his happy place. After starting the week with a big overtime win at home on Monday, the Blue Shirts have dominated Western Conference opponents at the Garden this campaign.

As I mentioned in my Monday preview with the Rangers and Flames, the Blue Shirts improved to 6 – 1 at home against Western Conference foes after taking a 5 – 4 win in overtime against the Flames. We have another opportunity to see another home win although the line setters aren’t making this a spot to play the Moneyline.
At 1.40, you know I have zero interest in an offer with that much juice attached to the action, although the Canucks are struggling to get anything right of late. The Nucks are 4 – 12 over their last 16 games, and the 4.19 goals allowed average over this poor run spells plenty of trouble ahead.
I will say that I wasn’t impressed with Igo Shesterkin’s performance on Monday after following up on that poor effort at the All-Star game. The Rangers got down 4 – 3 to Calgary midway through the 3rd period, but the Blue Shirts battled back to tie the game and force overtime eventually winning the game, 5 – 4.
While that game was happening on Monday, Vancouver took on New Jersey and they were also involved in a match that ended 5 – 4. Another loss has left the Nucks at 44 points in the 12th position of the Western Conference table, so let’s go on a limb and say that their playoff chances are slim to none at this point. Le Flame are the current holders of the 8th and final position toward the post-season, but you know I think that Calgary will give that lead away and be caught by either Colorado or Nashville.
The Devils scored three quick goals in the second period to turn a 1 – 1 game into a 4 – 1 lead, although I will give the Canucks credit for fighting hard enough to not let it be a blowout loss. However, 5 more goals allowed is a great concern while going up against the 2nd best defense in the Eastern Conference. The Rangers have allowed only 133 goals which are only bettered by Boston’s 111 number because Linus Ullmark is having quite a campaign.
Igor Shesterkin is not likely to win any awards this season, but let’s be honest he would trade any individual trophy to get his hands on Lord Stanley’s Cup. The Rangers need to add some bulk to their back line if they can get deep into the playoffs. Although the numbers look good on paper, I watch this team play hockey every night and I wish we had more presence at the blue line.
The creativity of #10 earned him an All-Star appearance, and if you watch enough Rangers’ games you know that Artemi Panarin is a force to be reckoned with. Panarin played a pivotal role in the goal that tied the Monday affair at 4 – 4 with his dish to Mika Zibanejad who sent the MSG crowd into a frenzy. Oh, that goal also got a big reaction here at the Garr household, and we dominated that overtime period against Calgary.
I scared the heck out of my dog when they scored that overtime goal because we are in the stretch of the campaign that every point is a must-have. I belted out a huge ‘HEEEE shoots and scores followed up with a Woooo!’, and the two points helped keep us 4 points clear of the Capitals in the Eastern Conference table.
Panarin and Zibanejad are each at 52 points leading the Rangers’ squad, and Panarin’s 40 assists speak of his vision and ability to find the open man. Being unselfish in a team sport makes Panarin quite an asset!
Currently holding on to the 6-seed in the conference, we are only a point behind Tampa Bay who got roasted on Monday by the Florida Panthers. I loved seeing that pan out into a 7 – 1 loss, and I hope you cashed in that Grand Salami bet I mentioned on Monday to go with my Rangers ML tip.
Igor Shesterkin is showing as the probable starter for the Rangers, but look who his opponent is expected to be. Spencer Martin is listed as the Canucks probable netminder, and oh, what a disaster this project has been thus far in the campaign.
Martin has lost his last eight starts and if giving up goals is the name of the game he has got that down, HA! Last I checked the point was to stop pucks from burning twine behind you, but until he figures it out this is not a good spot to catch the Rangers right now. On the road to boot, oh baby, here we go.

This affair might need a firehouse to douse the nets, and if this total doesn’t pour in I will be as shocked as the Dickens. If you need further convincing about Mr. Martin you should go look at his profile page. I mean talk about a sieve, he is the entire well of water with no walls to protect anyone in sight!
Unibet is offering a 1.93 line on the Over 6.5, and Bet365 among others isn’t far behind at 1.91. But you know me, right? The Mayor of Value City has a better offer (or two) to put on the table, so put your chips in the middle of the pot and fancy these two tips!
