New York Rangers vs Tampa Bay Lightning Best Bet: Opening Night at MSG
New York Rangers vs Tampa Bay Lightning Best Bet: Tuesday, October 11th
It’s opening night at Madison Square Garden where the NY Rangers and TB Lightning will take the ice on Monday night in the Big Apple! Drop the puck on a new campaign, although Nashville and San Jose have already officially opened the year in Europe, we’re back in the States to kick off a long season.

Madison Square Garden will be the place to be on Tuesday night as the Lightning and Rangers drop the puck to begin the 2022-23 NHL campaign. Both organizations have high hopes for significant results entering the new season, and we have a stout goalie matchup for this affair that will lead to the bet of the night.
Igor! That’s it, just Igor, baby! Hi, my name is Ej Garr and I have been a NY Rangers fan since I was born and raised in New York. That’s officially 53 years for this guy, but I bleed blue when it comes to hockey and I need another 1994 feeling again soon. It’s hard to believe that almost 30 years have passed since a Stanley Cup trophy has seen the state of New York, and we have 3 teams overall in the dance for goodness sake!
All right, I hope you’ll be here all season, and I missed my first tip by a goal when they opened the season in Europe with Nashville and San Jose last Friday. The Preds are coming back to the United States at 2 – 0 and Le Sharks are 0 – 2 since those two games officially counted in the regular season standings. We’ll be back in Europe again in November, so stay tuned.
Only two games are being played tonight, as Vegas and Los Angeles will take the ice at 10 p.m ET after this game is done. Let me get back to discussing that goalie matchup we have because of two of the best netminders in the league on the ice tonight.
I’ll do it again because I can… IGOR!! Igor Shesterkin is the defending Vezina award winner which goes to the best hockey netminder in the NHL Regular season. The obnoxious 2 goals allowed per game throughout the 2021-22 campaign says about all you need to know about how hard it was to score on the first goalie to be a Hart Trophy Finalist in 5 years to boot. He finished 3rd in the NHL MVP voting on top of the Vezina honor, and expectations are obviously over the moon coming into this year.
I expect many, many chants of ‘Igor’ throughout the rafters of MSG all season, and hopefully for years to come. Now, let’s not make the mistake of even remotely overlooking the animal taking up space in the other cage across the net. The Big Cat earned his own Vezina Trophy in 2019, and all Andrei Vasilevskiy has done is lead the entire league in wins for the last five campaigns. Oh, the 48 playoff wins ain’t bad either over the last 3 years!
So, when I saw the 1st Period total being listed at 1.93 for either the Over 1.5 or Under 1.5, guess which way I decided to go? Please! You said they have to score twice on the two best goalies in hockey in the first game of the season on a stage like MSG? Yeah, how about no!

What did you guess? The game might open up a little after the 1st period goes in the books, but all I can see is 0 – 0 going to the 2nd. If someone scores? I am not even going to sweat about it because I trust that these two goalies can hold their own early, and keep the puck out of the net for 20 minutes.
