When it comes to seeking value opportunities, you have seen me dishing out plus-money lines and tips full of value for the last two years here at BettingExpert. While the Rangers are favoured pretty strongly to win this game on the Moneyline at 1.55, there is zero value to find there even if they do win at MSG.

Let’s talk about what just transpired recently because when it comes to watching New York Rangers games I tend to be seen in front of a screen soaking it all in whenever they play, where even they are. Being here in New York makes it easy when I have MSG Network, and this game at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday night should be an up-and-down-the-ice affair.

I expect this 1st Period total to come in tonight, and we are not settling for that 1.71 offer on the Over 1.5. No No No, we have actual money to make tonight!

The Over 2 is listed on Marathon at 2.62 at the moment, but Bet365 shows 2.50 and they are our main sponsor around here so we’ll put that line on the board.

If you recall, these two teams met on November 7 here in New York, and the Rangers blasted home five goals in the home win, 5 – 3 vs this Red Wings squad, Igor Shesterkin sat out that night as Jonathan Quick got the call between the pipes, and let’s talk about last night, shall we?

Igor gave up 4 of the 5 goals to the Sabres on Monday night (Empty-Netter doesn’t count against his GAA, and his reaction after that loss was a bit over the top. After the empty-net tally turned the score to 4 – 1 against Buffalo, the Sabres added insult to injury and beat Igor short side for one more goal with barely any time to play. Those who bet that Over 6 surely felt that was a miracle to push that action the way the Rangers looked on offence.

Isn’t it ironic that the only goal the Rangers scored on Monday night came from Mika Zibanejad? Mika has been held without a goal in 9 of the Blue Shirts’ last 11 games, and his 5 goals for the campaign concern me as a fan, and as a tipster if I am being honest.

I tend to think I know what is coming on a nightly basis regardless of my bias as a fan of New York because I see everything every night with my own eyes. I don’t need to see the stats to know everything about what happened last night and this season, for the most part, just from seeing them skate.

Igor blasted his stick into the glass on the way off the ice on Monday night, and he flung the rest of his stick across the ice with no regard for anyone or anything around him. Again, if I am being honest, it was quite an overreaction for one loss in the regular season for a team in the first place of their division that still is playing some nice hockey. Unfortunately, Kaapo Kakko will be out of the lineup for the next while, and that injury he suffered looked rather ugly. That damn foot/lower leg looked like it was simply not lined up right, and I thought he cracked the shin and was headed for surgery immediately.

While Kakko hopes to get back on the ice before the end of the regular season, Filip Chytil will be joining Kakko on the injury list. However, the return of Adam Fox to the Rangers’ back line will surely provide a boost on both ends of the ice.

Fox has only played in 10 games this campaign, and his return comes at a perfect time for Shesterkin to maybe gain his confidence again. Fox still sits 7th on the Rangers’ roster with 11 points with only 10 games played, so I expect him to get right back to being offensive-minded and ready to influence the outcome of hockey games.

Detroit is riding a 3-game win streak, and let me tell you how hard it is for me to stare at the 2.78 Moneyline with the Red Wings tonight. Listen, I get what just happened to the Rangers on Monday night, I have 5 words for you.

After a loss, they rebound! The Rangers have followed up a loss with a win each time the opportunity has arrived, and I expect goals to come early and often tonight at MSG when Detroit and New York dance on Wednesday night.

New York Rangers vs Detroit Red Wings Trends

  • The Red Wings are 5 – 11 in the last 16 meetings in New York.
  • The Red Wings are 5 – 1 in their last 6 games vs. Metropolitan Division foes.
  • The Rangers are 7 – 1 in their last 8 vs. Eastern Conference teams.
  • The Total Over is 3 – 1 – 1 in the Rangers’ last 5 games at MSG.

New York Rangers vs Detroit Red Wings Stats & Form

The Rangers are 6 – 2 at home this season, and they already have a win against Detroit from their November 7 meeting here at MSG. As mentioned above, the 5 – 3 win for the Blue Shirts, ironically, also came after a loss in overtime to Minnesota. The Rangers have bounced back from a loss and picked up the pieces to win all of their following games in response at every opportunity.

Detroit will not make it easy, and I do, and will, understand if you fade the Rangers because of some of the trends I posted about this matchup. Detroit’s only loss against teams from the Metropolitan Division was against these Rangers. They are 5 – 0 against the rest of the division, so they usually show up in these cross-division games.

The Red Wings have scored 6 first-period goals over this current 3-game win streak, and I am aware of how well their defence has played of late. Detroit has only allowed a total of 3 goals to New Jersey, Boston, and Minnesota to arrive at this streak, and that is pretty damn impressive. Noted.

The Red Wings have won their last three games, and they bring the 4th ranked offence in the NHL that gathers 3.7 goals per game. I expect them to test the mettle of Shesterkin after the league saw him lose his mind on Monday night.
