The LA Kings made the Penguins look pretty bad on Saturday mounting a 6 – 0 win while holding Pittsburgh off the scoreboard. Ironically, the last time these two teams met on December 13 in Buffalo, the Sabres were the team that sent the Kings packing with their own 6 – 0 win against Los Angeles.
Revenge will be on the Kings’ minds for that loss and the way the Sabres are playing right now it doesn’t sound like it will be a tall order to fill. Buffalo has lost their last 3 games and they have only scored 5 goals over this run of losses while being outscored 15 – 5.
Buffalo got trounced by Calgary on Saturday allowing 7 goals to the Flames in their first game back from the All-Star break. Currently, Buffalo is in 13th place in the Eastern Conference standings, and I don’t think anyone is putting a futures bet on the Sabres to make the playoffs this campaign.
LA sent Phoenix Copley between the pipes against Pittsburgh on Saturday, and as usual, he got goal support as he usually does. The Kings have scored no less than 4 goals in his last 4 starts, although it looks as if Jonathan Quick will get the start in net tonight for Los Angeles.
The Kings knocked Casey DeSmith out of the game just a minute into the 2nd period after he gave up a third goal, and the Kings poured three more pucks into the net when Dustin Tokarsky relieved him. Los Angeles killed all five power-play chances for the Penguins, which we know is no easy task.
Adrian Kempe took 7 shots on goal against Pittsburgh and 4 of those pucks found twine, two of which were scored on the man advantage. Kempe increased his goal-scoring production to 26 goals for the campaign, and his 8 power play tallies also lead the Kings’ roster.
As you have seen me do before, I am playing the mini-combo or the Kings to win the game with Over 5.5 goals scored, and the price is certainly worth a stab. Marathon Sportsbook is offering a 2.85 sticker price on the window and I ripped it off the glass and made sure it went on the board in this spot.
I assume Buffalo remembers the success they had from their 6 – 0 win over LA, and they will need to find some of that magic before their playoff hopes completely disappear. The real battle is happening in the Pacific Division table, as the Kings are fighting for the title only 3 points behind Las Vegas. The Kings are tied with 3 teams with those 65 points, although Seattle is slowly falling apart and the Oilers just had their confidence shattered again on Sunday losing to Montreal, 6 – 2.

I hope Buffalo can mount some kind of effort to at least grab a goal or two, but I see a Kings’ defense that won’t make it easy. Even though Quick has not lived up to his name, he is not having his beast campaign either but he should be able to do enough to get the win.
