Florida Panthers vs Tampa Bay Lightning Best Bet: Friday, October 21st

It’s the Florida Derby, but not the one we are accustomed to seeing at Gulfstream Park in April involving the ponies. The Panthers and Lightning take the ice renewing their rivalry that has become quite a thing over the years. This is the first of four regular-season meetings between the organizations which are currently headed in two different directions early in the campaign.

I know a good handful of you would rather me be previewing the actual Florida derby because I see all of the horse racing stuff that gets posted here. Sorry! This is a hockey match preview but I can still help you get paid it just won’t be from something that happens on the track. It will be on the ice, and first of all, I am stunned that the line setters are leaving Florida at about even money to take a win here.

The Panthers are on home ice, they are the team playing well out of the gate and Tampa Bay has looked like rubbish thus far. I get that things will in no way stay the same for too long, but I have seen two of the four Tampa Bay affairs this season with my own eyes. You know I previewed the Rangers affair right here, and I got us paid with my prediction for that match.

If you know anything about me you can take two things with you. I do not post offers with lines above 1.80 (-125 in U.S terms), and I am the Mayor of Value City. I am also the king of totals, and they can be tricky because of the lines being shown to us this year. I have already noticed that the oddsmakers adjusted just one year ago.

A 6.5 last year would commonly be 1.91, and a straight 6 was still being seen when some of the high-scoring teams would meet. This year, we are looking at different numbers, and if you notice the totals for all three games tonight you can see what I mean. The Over 6.5 offers are up near 1.75 tonight. This total is up there and the over with the Kraken vs Avalanche game is also showing 6.5 at 1.77. The Chicago vs Detroit game also features a 1.87 on the Over 6.5, so inflation has affected our lives, and it’s also affected the prices on the prospects of goals being scored in the NHL. Prices are steep these days!

I won’t give in! I will buy top ramen if I have to, HA! My point is that I won’t give in and settle for paying big juice for hockey bets because the line setters want me to. So, here’s what we’re going to do here.

The Both Teams to Score in the 1st Period is 2.31 at most sites that I see offering the prop. At worst, I see 2.25 for that play and you should touch on it. I know, and we all know that Vasilevskiy will not keep giving up goals for too long, but right now that GAA sure is ugly at 2.73.

The Panthers are averaging 35.5 shots a game, and I don’t see why they would get away from putting as much rubber on the net as possible again tonight. We should see 40+ shots tonight, and I expect a few of them to find twine. Sergei Bobrovksy is also up at 2.75 GAA this year, and this could surely be a 3 – 3 game. There’s the issue with playing straight 7s on the total this year, but the problem is I am only seeing 2.00 for that Over too. Even money? Come on, man! I need more value than that and I know you do too!
