Edmonton Oilers vs LA Kings Best Bet: Wednesday, April 19th

The LA Kings stole game 1 of the series against Edmonton after getting down early and mounting the comeback win on Monday night. The Oilers shot themselves in the foot with late penalties that led to powerplay goals for the Kings that both tied the game at 3 – 3 and eventually earned them the road win, 4 – 3. Our resident pucks pundit Ej Garr is expecting more goal-scoring on Wednesday from game 2 in Edmonton, so let’s take it to the ice and ride the Zamboni to another win.

The Dallas Stars let me down on Monday, and as I usually do I apologize for posting a losing tip on Monday to start the NHL Playoffs. So, I am on the hunt to get it back and I think the best bet to make from the four games being played on Wednesday comes in the form of the total in Edmonton.

The Oilers and Kings combined to commit 11 penalties on Monday night, and the last two sins cost the Oilers the game after staking to a 3 – 1 lead early in the third period. Edmonton started the game with a pair of first-period goals, one of which came on the powerplay that gave the Oilers a 2 – 0 lead to the third period after a scoreless second frame.

If you watched the game as I did, it was amazing how the Kings’ first goal in the third period deflated the crowd to a low hum until Leo Draisaitl scored his second goal of the night that gave the Oilers a 2-goal advantage again, but the Kings had no interest in playing dead and giving up.

Adrian Kempe picked up a brace scoring the first and second goals for the Kings, and then the Oilers simply fell apart committing two huge penalties that eventually cost them an early series lead, and now the Kings are the team that is guaranteed to go home with at least a split in Edmonton.

Anze Kopitar was involved with all four of the Kings’ goals, scoring the third goal that tied the game at 3 – 3 while assisting on all three of the other tallies that propelled the Kings to victory. Kopitar earned the secondary assist on the powerplay goal in overtime that sealed the win for LA, and now they are the team with momentum despite the Oilers’ fantastic finish to the regular season.

I told you there would be a few surprises to come in the playoffs and the Wild and Kings both provided the first two upsets of the post-season taking road wins as underdogs. The Oilers are significant favourites on Wednesday being handed a 1.45 on the Moneyline to level the series at a win apiece. That line makes me want to jump all over the Kings because you know me and my need to post plus-money offers time and again.

I am going to settle for the total at 6.5, and I am suggesting the Over after seeing all the mistakes being made on Monday by both teams. There could have easily been 9 goals in that game, and I expect to see no less than another 4 – 3 result on Wednesday to help us get back to our winning ways.

Edmonton Oilers vs LA Kings Best Bet

Discipline was not shown at all by either team on Monday and both teams will certainly be talking about trying to limit the mistakes again for Game 2. The Oilers threw 40 pucks on the net on Monday as both teams combined to tally 75 shots even though the Kings only took a total of 4 shots on goal in the final stanza.
