Detroit Red Wings vs New Jersey Devils Best Bet: Wednesday, January 3rd

Lamps will be lit on Wednesday night when the Detroit Red Wings play host to the New Devils, and our resident pucks pundit Ej Garr has his eyes on the twine! After falling a goal short with his Monday offer, Ej is turning right back to another total from the three-game slate of hockey tonight.

Detroit Red Wings vs New Jersey Devils Preview

January 4, 00:05 (UK time)

Visions of twine fill my mind when I envision how the game between Detroit and New Jersey will play out on Hump Day, so expect plenty of goal-scoring tonight at Little Caesars Arena. I am still adjusting to life without The Joe, and calling the Wings home ice anything but that still doesn’t register yet.

Regardless of what building we’re in, I was waiting impatiently to see what lines we would have for this total tonight, and I think we still have enough value to splash the Over 6.5 Goals. I am seeing 1.87 for the offer at most major books, and there is enough value there to make it worth the action.

Now, you damn well know since we need a 3 – 3 regulation effort from these two teams tonight that it will be good enough to cash us out. When I first saw some lines popping up I seriously stared at the 7 but I didn’t want to push the envelope tonight because I missed Monday’s tip. I can’t stand losing, and I am okay with pushing action too, which you have to be aware of by now since I’ve been here nearly a year now.

My little self-proclaimed Mayor of Value City may not tickle your fancy, but I like to think I’ve earned the title because of so many fantastic offers I hand out around here.

I have good reason to expect a high-scoring affair in this spot, and anyone can see that these two teams are both scoring right now. The Devils have scored at least 4 goals in three of their last five games, and what a wild game their last outing was against the Canes. Carolina went on to take a 5 – 4 win in shootout fasion, while the Devils allowed 47 shots on goal.

If you recall, early when the season started these two teams met twice, and goals were the call to order each time. Detroit dumped 5 goals on New Jersey in their house on October 15 and 10 days later the Devils dropped 6 goals on the Wings in this building.

That seems like ancient history right now it was so long ago, and both teams are in much different shape now. The Devils now trail the Hurricanes by 7 points in the Metropolitan Division standings after the loss to the Canes on January 1. Still, in a heavy rut, New Jersey is now bunched with the entire division as 5 teams are only separated by 5 points behind the Canes.

I am not about to talk playoff picture yet because we still haven’t reached the official halfway point of the campaign. There is so much hockey left to be played, and the Red Wings have been playing some decent hockey lately.

Being down to Pittsburgh 4 – 0 in the first period and still managing to win that game was mighty impressive and now the Wings have found wins in three of their last four games. Detroit has scored 25 goals over their last games, and catching New Jersey right now is a treat!

Vitek Vanecek and Ville Husso are slated as the expected netminders tonight, and Vanecek is watching his great start to the campaign go into the tank. Vanecek has one win over his last seven starts, although the Devils have seemed to struggle scoring for him of late.

That should change with Husso across the ice, as he is trying to pick up the pieces from being pulled in that Pittsburgh game early. His team bailed him out by coming out and winning the game as they did, but Husso was nowhere near the ice for any of that.

Detroit Red Wings vs New Jersey Devils Best Bet

As much as I expect plenty of goals, I do want to put everyone on that Over 7 with all of that value behind it. However, being greedy and just hoping we win will make me smile just as big, so let’s just get this 6.5 in the books, and I’ll meet you at the window with our tickets to cash!

  • Selection: Over 6.5 Goals
  • Best odds: 1.87 (Pinnacle)
  • Stakes: 4/10

Odds as of 9:00 am January 4, 2023. Odds may now differ.
