Detroit Red Wings vs Montreal Canadiens Best Bet: Friday, October 14th

The Detroit Red Wings will finally get to take the regular-season ice when they play their home opener at The Joe on Friday night. Le Habs are in town fresh off a big 4 – 3 win over rival Toronto to kick off their 2022 campaign, and we have a lot of questions to ask the line setters about why they have Detroit so strongly favoured at home.

The Red Wings are favoured over Montreal to kick off their 2022 campaign, and my mind is blown! I am trying to figure out where the line setters’ minds are for this gem, and I can’t see what they see.

I made a friend the other day on Twitter named Max, and he did a bang-up job with his article about the Detroit Red Wings 23-man roster that the team announced on Sunday. Red Wings Head Coach Derek Lalonde didn’t even bother waiting until the deadline to hand in his list of players to the NHL, and it included a few surprises.

First of all, I caught the Toronto vs Detroit final pre-season game and all I could do was look around wondering who that guy is, where did he come from, and who is between the pipes again? Being as old-school as I am, I think of the days when household names started in Detroit, and then the rest of the league had their stuff going on. I see this 23-man opening-day roster and wonder where the points are going to come from and who is going to stop pucks from catching twine.

I think there is a ton of pressure being put on the top line of Bertuzzi, Larkin, and Raymond to produce this season. Larkin had one helluva campaign scoring 31 goals a season ago wearing the Captain C on his chest, and this year he better get close to another 70-point campaign to keep this team in the playoff conversation.

I also watched the Leafs get beat by these Habs the other night, 4 – 3, and what a finish to that game we had, right? The Habs pre-season was full of bad hockey being played, but that’s more proof of why results from games that don’t matter lead to bad things in the regular season. Toronto was listed at 1.70 to take 2 points in regulation time and that 1.40 on the Moneyline sure meant that the Leafs couldn’t possibly lose to Montreal. No, of course not, no chance!

My god, if thinking dog is not your fancy then I strongly suggest you stop reading my articles. You are talking to the Mayor of Value City and a guy who invented a forum called Thinkdog. If that doesn’t spell out anything about my approach, then what can?

I see a Detroit organization with one volatile line that everyone will be looking to shut down, and I just watched Le Hab take down Toronto the other night. Seeing them shut down the Leafs with Jake Allen between the pipes gives me more confidence than what I have seen from Detroit to this point. I know the Wings have a big line with International flavor, but they are going to hit people and do what? Being physical and putting points on the board are two different animals, and I need to see Detroit win some games before I put my money on them this favoured.

Detroit and this team do not deserve to be listed at 1.55 to win the hockey game, but that 2.50 is staring me right in the face screaming pick me, pick me!

That 2.50 is way too good to resist with Le Habs and the Moneyline. I want to see Detroit prove me wrong because my opinion is that they have too many holes to fill and their goalkeeping situation is not ideal.
