Dallas Stars vs San Jose Sharks Best Bet: Lookout, Sharks in Texas!
Dallas Stars vs San Jose Sharks Best Bet: Friday, November 11th
The Sharks hit the road after a home stand that produced one win from the 6 outings, but the troubles haven’t resulted from a lack of goal-scoring. In classic Ej fashion, our resident puck pundit finds value in the total, but with his lines, he isn’t kidding!

The Sharks just wrapped up a 6-game home stand, and although they only picked up one official win, they did find 5 points from 4 games that went into overtime. So, the second point seems to be avoiding them right now but it’s not from a lack of scoring goals.
There were no less than 6 goals in any of the 6 home games during that span, and the home-and-home with Anaheim was just a goal-scoring fiesta producing 18 regulation-time goals between them. The Ducks and Sharks played 2 of the last 3 games in the San Jose home stand, and they just kept scoring, so who are we to hope it continues?
Hey, I am not trying to over-analyze anything here, it’s Hockey! In the now, San Jose is having tons of issues defensively, and sure, that will change in spurts as it always does. I have handicapped hockey for 100 years and totals are my thing. I give out the Grand Salami nearly every day, and I can tell you that every 2 weeks things just suddenly change in the NHL.
It’s just life in hockey, my friends. Every two weeks or so teams take stock of what is going right, and what is going wrong, and you see the adjustments made throughout the campaign. A team can suddenly just go from defensive rubbish to working on it so hard that their concentration and effort to make that change can quite literally change the dynamic of the season. Adjustments by coaches and assistants never stop but this early in the season teams are just trying to stay with what is working because of so many games and so few practices to work on things.
The best teams don’t just listen to a coach say we need to work on this guys, you have to have the time and ability to actually go work on it for it to change. I will go on a limb and say that because the Sharks have had almost a week off, they can actually take that time to work on things that aren’t working right now, and that is keeping pucks out of their net.
James Reimer and Jake Oettinger are the expected goalies taking the ice tonight, and Oettinger is undoubtedly having a nice campaign thus far. The 1.4 GAA and .952 save percentage tell you that story but the last time he skated the Rangers lit him up for 6 goals and he hasn’t played in 12 days.
Reimer is part of a Sharks back end that allows 3.3 goals per game and ranks 21st in the NHL, and he’s given up no less than 4 goals in each of his last 4 starts.

Normally, a week off should build a different dynamic for a struggling hockey team that can’t seem to find wins but is, at least, taking points here and there. Am I concerned that San Jose ranks 30th in scoring? Nope, this is where the week off should come in handy, with live legs ready to start strrong and come out inspired to start a 3-game road trip that takes them to Minnesota and Vegas.
We’re not settling for 6.5 and 1.91, thanks. We need a 3 – 3 affair to cash that ticket, and I have no issue with you settling for that. The Mayor of Value City doesn’t settle sometimes, it’s my right to offer extreme value when deemed necessary.
