Vancouver may have had their 3-game win streak snapped the last time they took the ice, and that was an ugly 3 – 0 loss to Minnesota at home. Catching Le Flame in this spot should be an excellent way to get back to your winning ways, as center Elias Lindholm and defenseman MacKenzie Weegar are expected to be absent for Calgary tonight.
Weegar has been a helluva disappointment since coming over from Florida, and any time he misses now will just make the numbers look harsher than they already are. He has yet to score a goal and has only 6 dimes despite his +3 rating after two seasons of nice production with the Panthers that saw him put up 80 points over that span.
Vancouver will have a couple of days off after this game to return home and host 3 games against Winnipeg, St. Louis, and Seattle. The Canucks have lost 6 of their last 8 meetings with Calgary, this being the first time they’ll meet this campaign.
As we peruse the rankings, it’s clear that the Vancouver offense is doing a lot of good things, as they’re ranked 9th in scoring and 7th with the Power Play. Defens… wait, nope, you won’t catch me saying that word and Vancouver in the same sentence, and that is the one concern I have tonight. The Canucks are dead-last in goals allowed and they simply cannot stop anyone’s man advantage this year. Staying out of the penalty box will be vital for any Canuck success tonight, and we have to assume they are well aware of that fact that needs to be fixed.
In direct opposition, Calgary relies on their keeper and defense to keep them in games, evidenced by their 4th spot in the rankings that holds teams to only 28.5 shots a game.
