Wednesday's Horse Racing Tips: Newbury, January 17th

Today’s Horse Racing Tips – January 17th
There are four meetings in Britain and Ireland on Wednesday, with NH fans in for an informative afternoon. They have Newbury and Southwell to study on drying ground, with some decent novice contests to try to solve at the Berkshire venue. AW fans have Wolverhampton in afternoon and decent grade action to study in the evening at Kempton, with the lights coming on at 5.30pm and the novice/maiden races looking especially competitive for the time of year.

Some Scope
Newbury 2:30 (UK time)
Richard Hobson does well every winter with a relatively small team of horses, and his unexposed young chaser looked one to follow up the weights when landing quite a touch at Catterick in November. He jumped and travelled well there throughout under a confident ride from rear, idling when in command which has helped his mark going forwards, and there should be loads more improvement in the tank after just two career starts over fences.
Odds: NA

Sergeant Wilson
Newbury 1:55 (UK time)
Nigel Twiston-Davies has his team in top form at the moment, particularly when the cash is down, and his consistent handicapper has optimum conditions here to snap a frustrating spell of placed efforts in similar class (with Daryl Jacob booked). He caught the eye under very positive tactics over this course and distance in November (claimer ridden/caught a tartar in Brentford Hope), and then found the ground far too testing when only fourth at 8/11f at Fakenham last time out.
Odds: NA
