Thursday's Horse Racing Tips: York, August 22nd
Today’s Horse Racing Tips – August 22nd
There are seven meetings on a very busy Thursday in Britain and Ireland, with fans of the flat getting stuck into competitive cards at Chelmsford (AW), Leopardstown, Lingfield, Newcastle (AW) and York (as the four day Ebor meeting continues). Jumps fans have some huge fields to study at Killarney and Newton Abbot, with a summer holiday family crowd certain on the Devon Riviera.

Metal Merchant
York 3.00 (UK time)
Jack Channon’s progressive handicapper has generally been running really well in defeat since making a winning seasonal reappearance, and is worth another chance to get his head in front with this flat, galloping track expected to suit him on decent summer ground. The eyecatching booking of James Doyle certainly increases confidence, and the assured strong pace in this huge field of classy performers should set things up ideally for him to pounce late.
Odds: 11.00

Emily Upjohn
York 3.35 (UK time)
John Gosden’s classy filly has not lived up to market expectations this season, but there have been mitigating circumstances and she can bounce back to her best here under Kieran Shoemark. She was given far too much to do parked very wide on the track at Glorious Goodwood, and much more positive tactics are on the cards here (at a track where she stormed home by over five lengths on her only previous visit).
Odds: 7.50
