Today’s Horse Racing Tips – June 22nd
Thursday is dominated by the third day of Royal Ascot, with ground conditions likely to be quickening up all the time after a dry week so far. Gold Cup Day begins with a competitive 2-y-o contest in the Norfolk Stakes, providing an opportunity for those juveniles who may be just below the top class level required in the Coventry Stakes.
This is a very competitive card for punters to try and solve, with maximum fields likely in the handicaps and the Group contests featuring runners with different form-lines from Britain and Ireland.
The highlight of the day is undoubtedly the Ascot Gold Cup at 4.20pm, and although there is no Stradivarius in 2023 to wow the huge crowds, there could be a new star emerge in Andrew Balding’s classy stayer Coltrane.
Elsewhere there are flat meetings at Chelmsford, Leopardstown, Lingfield and Ripon, while NH fans have an evening card at Uttoxeter to get stuck into.

John and Thady Gosden’s highly regarded 3-y-o Frankel filly has created a deep impression when winning both of her career starts so far at Haydock and Goodwood, showing a devastating turn of foot to quicken clear in a valuable listed contest last time out. She now steps up in trip to 1m4f in the Group 2 Ribblesdale Stakes, but that is expected to bring about further improvement, and she can take the marked jump up in class in her stride under regular rider Jim Crowley.

Jessica Harrington is better known for some high profile jumping winners, but she does well with a relatively small team on the flat and this unexposed 3-y-o handicapper has been aimed at the Royal meeting all season. He has shaped well in defeat in three runs in warm company over seven furlongs so far this term, and the step up to a mile here should suit ideally (with much faster ground a plus and more improvement in the tank after just seven career starts).
