Today’s Racing Tips – April 27th

Saturday’s ITV racing action features the best of Sandown’s final jumps card of the season, with the Bet365 Gold Cup at 3.35pm very much the big betting race of the afternoon at the Esher venue (alongside some compelling Graded action and the long awaited clash between El Fabiolo and Jonbon). There is also supporting action on the flat from Haydock and Leicester, with some difficult and valuable handicaps for punters to solve on very soft ground.

Today’s Daily Nap

Threeunderthrufive

Sandown 3:35 (UK time)

Paul Nicholls progressive chaser comes here relatively fresh after a 70 day break and just three runs this winter, and his sound jumping should be a real asset over these demanding fences. He has won 5 from 13 over fences, improving still at the age of nine, and has proven stamina for four miles will be a real asset up the final climb for home under Cobden.

Odds: 8.00

Today’s Value Angle

Secret Squirrel

Sandown 1:50 (UK time)

Hughie Morrison’s progressive young hurdler has plenty of ability to go with his quirks, and this huge field handicap should allow him to settle in the early stages for the first time over timber. He has raced with the choke out on all four career starts so far in this sphere (two narrow wins in decent novice company), but the strong gallop on much faster ground may see him in an even better light under regular rider Dave Bass.

He has raced with the choke out on all four career starts so far in this sphere (two narrow wins in decent novice company), but the strong gallop on much faster ground may see him in an even better light under regular rider Dave Bass.
2:05 Leicester Big Bear Hug Adam West’s unexposed handicapper was gambled last week at Nottingham, and looked a shade unlucky not to land the cash (run from rear checked at a crucial time). She has race-fitness on her side here with soft ground no issue, and seems sure to go close at Leicester on Saturday under the promising 7lb claimer Alice Bond.
2:25 Sandown Hitman Paul Nicholls classy chaser has not been easy to place this winter, falling short in top company and being rated far too high to be a factor in the top handicaps. He has plenty of good form at Sandown in the past, and the drying spring ground might help him these days over the extended 2m6f trip.
2:45 Haydock Park Rainbow Fire Marco Botti has hit form in the last fortnight with three winners, and his unexposed handicapper has been building up to full fitness this season with a couple of encouraging runs on the all-weather. He has a better record on the turf with 3 wins from 7 career starts is far, and this seven furlong trip on deep ground should suit ideally under Neil Callan.
3:00 Sandown Jonbon Nicky Henderson’s enigmatic chaser has not always impressed in victory this season, only workmanlike when seeing off Conflated at Aintree last time out. He has a tendency to only do just enough in front, but should relish the much better ground at Sandown on Saturday and his main rival El Fabiolo certainly has something to prove after his Festival flop.
