Saturday’s Horse Racing Tips: Goodwood, Newmarket, August 3rd
Today’s Racing Tips – August 3rd
Saturday’s ITV cameras bring the best of the turf action from the final day of the Glorious Goodwood meeting, with a brilliant mix of top class Group races and huge field heritage handicaps. There are also two races from HQ, where the ground is also sure to be on the faster side of good after the summer weather finally arrived across the country this week.

Today’s Daily Nap
CAUIS CHORISTER
Goodwood 3.00 (UK time)
David Menuisier’s likeable mare failed to stay a marathon 2m4f trip when well held at Royal Ascot in the Group 1 Gold Cup, but had run two cracking races in defeat previously this season and can bounce back to her best now dropped down to a more suitable 1m6f. She has won an impressive 6 of her 23 career starts so far, and winning form in the book here on fast ground is always a big positive (with Harry Bentley booked for the ride another positive).
Odds: 6.00

APOLLO ONE
Goodwood 3.35 (UK time)
Peter Charalambous’s battle-hardened sprinter was sunk in soft ground at Sandown last time out when disappointing, but had run two crackers in strong handicaps before that blip and can bounce back to his best here on a much faster surface. His brute early pace is always a big asset at these sharp tracks, and he can blitz a big field from the front under regular rider Richard Kingscote.
Odds: 21.00
ITV Racing Tips – Saturday August 3rd
Time (UK) | Track | Horse | Analysis |
---|---|---|---|
1:50 | Goodwood | AIMERIC | Roger Varian continues in terrific form with six winners in the last fortnight, and his progressive performer looked unlucky not to land a strong contest at Newmarket last time out. This Group 3 represents a slightly stronger assignment under James Doyle, but he has lass questions to answer than this market rivals and remains open to some improvement over this 1m4f trip (granted a proper test of stamina). |
2:05 | Newmarket | COUNTESS CIARA | Archie Watson always does well with his juveniles, and his progressive filly made a pleasing start in handicaps when finishing second at Windsor last month. There is still more to come after three career starts on the turf, and she seems sure to go close here under Joshua Bryan with the fast ground conditions suiting ideally at this six furlong trip. |
2:25 | Goodwood | AYYAB | Sean Woods filly has already proved herself well suited by this track when winning over 1m4f here in May on good ground, and could be worth excusing a lesser effort at Pontefract last time out in a rather muddling listed contest. |
2:40 | Newmarket | PLACE OF SAFETY | John and Thady Gosden’s filly looked a smart prospect when making shedding her maiden tag at Kempton in July, and looks worth sticking with now jumping up in class to listed company at Newmarket on Saturday. She remains with the scope to do a good deal better after just two career starts, and Benoit de la Sayette is likely to be positive on the prevailing fast ground with stamina assured for the 1m4f trip. |
