Today’s Racing Tips – February 15th

The ITV cameras cover the best of the action from Ascot, Haydock and Wincanton on Saturday, with a brilliant mix of Graded action and typically competitive handicaps on improving ground.

Today’s Daily Nap

GOLDEN ACE

Wincanton 1.36 (UK time)

Jeremy Scott has his team back in the winners after a quiet couple of months (2w/12r in the last 14 days), and his high class mare is strongly fancied to get back on the winning trail after two expensive defeats this winter. She is a smooth traveller with a sharp turn of foot at her best, winning four of her six career starts over hurdles so far, and this speed track should really play to her strengths under Lorcan Williams.

Ascot 2.21 (UK time)

Joe Tizzard’s unexposed handicapper went into the notebook last time out at Newbury in warm company on testing ground, going freely harried on a strong pace, and he could take plenty of catching round this sharp hurdle course on drying ground. The yard has been in blistering form with 8 winners from their last 29 runners in the past fortnight (28pc strike rate), and he remains with handicapping upside after just seven career starts over hurdles.

ITV Racing Tips – Saturday February 15th

Time (UK) Track Horse Analysis
01:15 Ascot KINGSTON PRIDE Nicky Henderson’s highly regarded novice found deep ground too much at Sandown last time when pulled up in December (very well backed/legless up the straight when ridden), but can get his career back on track here on better ground.
1:36 Wincanton GOLDEN ACE Jeremy Scott has his team back in the winners after a quiet couple of months (2w/12r in the last 14 days), and his high class mare is strongly fancied to get back on the winning trail after two expensive defeats this winter. She is a smooth traveller with a sharp turn of foot at her best, winning four of her six career starts over hurdles so far, and this speed track should really play to her strengths under Lorcan Williams.
1:50 Ascot JINGKO BLUE Nicky Henderson’s unexposed chaser caught the eye when landing the odds easily at Windsor last time out, and is very much one to follow once the ground dries up this spring. He steps up in class at Ascot on Saturday, but will relish the better ground under Nico de Boinville, and a contested pace up front could set things up nicely for him to pounce late at a short price.
2:05 Haydock EATON COLLINA This veteran has been running himself fit this winter, and the Kerry Lee yard is now in top form. A front-running ride is on the cards here from Richard Patrick, and that could take these jaded rivals out of their comfort zone from an early stage.
2:25 Ascot RIGHTSOTOM Joe Tizzard’s unexposed handicapper went into the notebook last time out at Newbury in warm company on testing ground, going freely harried on a strong pace, and he could take plenty of catching round this sharp hurdle course on drying ground. The yard has been in blistering form with 8 winners from their last 29 runners in the past fortnight (28pc strike rate), and he remains with handicapping upside after just seven career starts over hurdles.
2:40 Haydock BEAUPORT Nigel Twiston-Davies’s useful hurdler has been thriving this winter, and his proven stamina for further is sure to be a real asset here under a postive ride from Tom Bellamy. He ran a career best when third in the Long Walk at Ascot in December, picked off inside the final furlong by Crambo, and looks the clear form choice here in a weak renewal of this Grade 2.
3:00 Ascot SNIPE Dan Skelton’s frustrating handicapper does not always deliver off the bridle what he threatens as he travels strongly on it, but he has a good pace to aim at here and can pounce late with any luck in running under a patient ride from Harry Skelton (with the yard continuing in championship chasing form after 11 winners in the last 14 days at a 22pc strike rate).
3:15 Haydock VAL DANCER Mel Rowley does really well with a small team of horses, and her progressive stayer will relish every yard of this stamina-sapping 3m4f trip. Regular rider Charlie Hammond knows him really well (on board when he emerged from the fog to land the Welsh National at Chepstow in December), and the tough 8-y-o has now won 5 of his 8 starts over fences.
3:37 Ascot L’HOMME PRESSE Venetia Williams has enjoyed a terrific season and seems no sign of slowing down as the festival rapidly approaches (7 winners in the last fortnight at a 19pc strike rate). Her tough stayer has won 8 from 13 over fences, and returned to his very best when narrowly winning the Cotswold Chase at Cheltenham in January (confidently ridden in typical kid-glove style by Charlie Deutsch).
