Today’s Racing Tips – April 5th

Saturday’s ITV action covers Grand National day at Aintree, with the big race at 4.00pm looking a typically wide open renewal and all of the top Irish yards very well represented. The supporting card mixes Grade 1 quality with sometypically competitive handicaps, with decent spring ground expected after a dry, warm week of weather.

Today’s Daily Nap

VANILLIER

Aintree 4.00 (UK time)

Gavin Cromwell has enjoyed a fantastic winter in Ireland, and tasted Cheltenham festival glory when it mattered in the Gold Cup, and his smart stayer has been trained with Aintree in mind all season. He warmed up for this prestigious prize with a cracking third behind Stumptown in the Cross Country at the Cheltenham festival, looking very unlucky to lose in the circumstances after losing his place early, and has vital National experience in the book (cracking second to Corach Rambler in the 2023 renewal).

Today’s Value Angle

MIAMI MAGIC

Aintree 1.55 (UK time)

Stuart Edmunds has his small team in blistering form at the moment with three winners in the last fortnight, and his progressive novice comes into this on the back of a cracking effort behind Tripoli Flyer at Kempton in the Dovecote in February. The booking of Brian Hughes is a definite plus, and he can reel these in late off an assured strong early gallop.

ITV Racing Tips – Saturday April 5th

Time (UK) Track Horse Analysis
01:20 Aintree BO ZENITH Nicky Henderson’s hurdler was a big eyecatcher at Ascot in January, and looked ready for a step up in trip when disappointing at Sandown last time out (never travelling). This better ground and flatter track can see him in an even more positive light now from a fair handicap mark, and there is plenty more to come after just eight starts so far over hurdles (three for this yard since arriving from Gary Moore).

2:30 Aintree CRUZ CONTROL Tom Lacey has maintained an good strike rate in recent weeks, and his useful chaser has optimum conditions to win again back at Aintree on Saturday. He impressed when landing a hefty touch here last season from the front, and seems sure to have been laid out fresh here under the excellent Stan Sheppard.
3:05 Aintree TEAHUPOO Gordon Elliott’s 8-y-o has won 11 of his 18 starts over hurdles, and can gain compensation for a very expensive defeat at the Cheltenham festival in the Stayers hurdle. He is a smooth traveller who will love this track on drying ground, and can pounce after the last from all the usual suspects in this weak division.
