There are three meetings in Britain and Ireland on Monday, with NH fans in for an interesting afternoon of varied action. They have Ayr and Taunton to get stuck into on eased decent ground, with some competitive handicaps to solve at the Somerset venue in particular (alongside a few potentially smart novices from the local Paul Nicholls yard). AW fans have low grade action to study, with Newcastle putting on an interesting twilight card under floodlights starting at 3.20pm.

Ben Pauling has maintained a terrific strike rate over the last few weeks (four winners from 19 runners in the last fortnight), and his promising maiden chaser will relish the test of speed at Taunton on Monday. He shaped nicely until unseating three out when well backed on his chasing debut at Southwell in December, and is open to a lot more improvement than these much more exposed rivals (with the relatively decent ground ideal).

Dan Skelton’s consistent handicapper has shaped well in defeat twice already this winter (travelling like one well ahead of this mark), and should now be fully fit with the yard in terrific form. She has won 2 of her 8 career starts so far over hurdles, and this slightly better ground at a sharper track should suit ideally (now back down in trip to 2m3f), and Harry Skelton is likely to be a lot more positive with those two sharpeners under her belt.
