There are four meetings in Britain and Ireland on Monday, with NH fans having some decent handicaps to try to solve at Hereford and Punchestown on drying ground. AW fans have low grade action to study at Lingfield and Wolverhampton, with the lights coming on at 5.30pm at the Midlands venue (and the handicaps looking especially competitive for the time of year).

Alan King’s unexposed novice shaped nicely on his seasonal reappearance at Doncaster in November, and has been found a terrific opening at Hereford on Monday. He should avoid the dreaded bounce factor having been given time to recover from that effort, and remains open to more improvement after just three career starts over fences. The excellent Tom Cannon takes the ride, and the unusually decent underfoot conditions should suit ideally (win last season came on good ground at Huntingdon).

Charlie Longsden would be better known for winners on decent ground in the summer months, but his progressive mare should now be spot on fitness-wise after a promising seasonal reappearance. She has stamina to prove now stepping up in trip to 2m3f under Lily Pinchin, but the decent ground is very much in her favour and plenty of these Class 5 rivals have plenty to prove at the moment.
