Uruguay, South America World Cup Qualifiers, October 18th, 01:00 (UK)
Marcelo Bielsa and Fernando Diniz are both known for their preferred attacking style of play.
Bielsa prefers a direct, all-out attack approach, which, although it can be effective, does leave gaps behind. Diniz, on the other hand, is trying to transition his positionless play we’ve seen at Fluminense over to the national team.
For now, it remains a work in progress. Brazil were left stunned after a 1-1 draw with Venezuela in Cuiaba. A last-gasp 1-0 win over Peru before also wasn’t convincing.
However, although Bielsa’s Uruguayan team are far superior to both Peru and Venezuela, their willingness to come out and attack will suit Diniz’s game plan. He needs teams to be willing to progress up the pitch to allow his team to be more fluid.
With more room in behind to exploit, the pace of Neymar, Rodrygo and Vinicius Junior should see them have multiple opportunities to find the back of the net.
There’s no doubt we’ll see Uruguay open at the back. They have conceded in all three games to date, but they’ve also scored in every match. Bielsa’s new-look team have shown how capable they are without Cavani and Suarez, and they’ll fancy themselves to cause Brazil problems on home soil.
In the last campaign, Brazil only conceded five goals in 17 matches. However, leaking goals against Venezuela and Bolivia – two of the weakest sides – is a cause for concern.
Two attacking technicians will know three points will send out a statement, but with defensive concerns in both camps, goals look the best way to go in this enthralling encounter.

Bettingexpert’s Alternative Expert Bet Tip: Nicolás De la Cruz Anytime Goalscorer
Bielsa-ball has allowed his side to be more fluid in the final third than we’ve been allowed to see Uruguay in recent times. At the heart of that in their only home game was River’s Nicolas de la Cruz, who scored a brace against Chile.
The 26-year-old midfielder was keen to link up with Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez, making key runs into the box where he showed his calmness to roll the ball home on two occasions.
We saw less of him in Barranquilla against Colombia. Yet, even in the sweltering hot conditions, de la Cruz wasn’t shy in front of goal.
He had three attempts, and back on home soil, he’ll no doubt be more comfortable in his usual surroundings.
Playing alongside Real Madrid’s Federico Valverde, who de la Cruz assisted against Chile, and PSG’s Manuel Ugarte, the River midfielder has the licence to push up further.
Having that flexibility should allow him chances, and he’s arguably a touch bigger in the betting than he should be.
- Bettingexpert’s Longshot Expert Bet Tip: De la Cruz Anytime Goalscorer

Uruguay vs Brazil Team News: Andre in for Casemiro?
Uruguay have no fresh injury concerns heading into this one, which means Bielsa can field his strongest XI. However, Manchester United’s Facundo Pellistri may be dropped to the bench with experience preferred against Brazil.
Casemiro is a slight doubt with an ankle injury. However, plenty have been calling for Diniz to play Andre instead after a couple of poor performances against Peru and Venezuela for the captain.
