Turkey vs Portugal Prediction 1: Six Points from Six for Martinez’s Men
England, Euro 2024, Saturday, June 22nd, 16:00 (UK)
Portugal dominated the ball against the Czech Republic but needed to show character to come from behind. Roberto Martinez needed to rely on his substitutes as Francisco Conceicao snatched the winning goal in injury time. The win was thoroughly deserved, with the Portuguese conceding just one shot on target in the entire match. Portugal finished the game with an xG that was 1.31 higher than the Czech Republic.
A Selecao came into Euro 2024 as one of the favourites to lift the trophy. The performance and result in the first game will have done very little to dampen their spirits so backing them to make it two wins from two looks a good bet here. They have won all 11 of their competitive matches under Martinez. They have scored an average of 3.45 goals over that period.
Turkey’s 3-1 win over Georgia was far from straightforward. They were under the cosh at times but the result was made to seem more emphatic when Akturkoglu put the ball into an empty net in the 97th minute, with the Georgian goalkeeper opting to join the attack from a corner.

Turkey vs Portugal Prediction 2: Portugal to Rack Up the Corners Once More
Portugal’s ability to hold on to possession and probe in order to find the breakthrough led to a glut of corners in their win over the Czech Republic. Ivan Hasek’s side were unable to mount sustained attacks and their goal came from a wonder striker by Provod. As a result, the Czechs failed to win a single corner. Portugal finished the game with 13 corners.
Since Roberto Martinez took charge of the Portuguese national team, his approach has ensured that the team have won plenty of corners. They are averaging 7.73 per game across their 11 competitive matches. That’s six more than their opponents.
Turkey are averaging 5.75 corners to their opponents 5.50 in their competitive matches under Vincenzo Montella but they are yet to face a side like Portugal. Georgia, Latvia, Wales and Croatia were their opponents in those four matches. On the last five occasions that Turkey have been similarly priced to win on the 1×2 market, their opponents have won 2.8 more corners than Montella’s men on average.

Turkey vs Portugal Prediction 3: Ronaldo Off the Mark
Cristiano Ronaldo looked lively in Portugal’s opening match. He was a constant threat in the penalty area and his aerial ability made him a target for several Portugal crosses. Ronaldo played the full 90 minutes and wound up finishing the game with five attempts, three of which forced a save from Jindrich Stanek in the Czech goal. Cristiano will be happy his team secured three points but will want to get off the mark in terms of goals when they face Turkey.
Ronaldo won the Golden Boot at Euro 2021 thanks to the five goals he scored. The one assist he managed was enough for him to secure the prize ahead of Patrik Schick. Despite no longer being at the peak of his powers, Cristiano was Portugal’s top scorer in European Championship qualifying with 10 goals. Only Romelu Lukaku was able to find the net more frequently.
The Al-Nassr forward top-scored the Saudi Pro League last season with 35 goals in 31 matches. Ronaldo may not be strutting his stuff on Europe’s biggest stages week in and week out anymore, but he is still capable of coming up trumps in the big moments.

Turkey vs Portugal Euro 2024 Team News and Possible Lineups: Martinez Could Tinker With Formation
Turkey will likely be forced to make a change at right-back with Muldur coming off injured in their last game. Arda Guler stole the show with the team’s second goal. The Real Madrid youngster was given a free role in the last game and will be expected to provide some magic once again.
Roberto Martinez opted for a back three in Portugal’s win over Czech Republic but he has the personnel to make a change. Diogo Jota looked dangerous when he came on and could be given the nod to start this one. Joao Neves, the much talked about youngster, could also bolster their midfield with Cancelo dropping back to defence.
