In this article:

Sporting vs Atalanta Tip 1: A Super Swede

Europe, Europa League, Wednesday, March 6th, 17:45 (UK)

Viktor Gyokeres has been mightily impressive. The Swedish international has endured a superb campaign for his new club. Sporting’s star has played 34 times across all competitions in 23/24. The former Coventry man has scored 31 times with a further nine assists. It’s clear why he’s receiving plaudits from far and wide.

The 25-year-old is the bookmaker’s favourite to score in this encounter. That’s far from surprising. I believe it’s still an appealing selection. He’s in terrific form and has been throughout the entire campaign. Gyokeres has started seven matches in the Europa League so far this term. He’s found the back of the net on five occasions.

The hosts should take the game to Atalanta. Estádio Jose Alvalade has been a fortress. Sporting have won all 11 of their league matches here. Ruben Amorim’s men have an aggregate score of 37-7 at this venue.

The Swede has found the back of the net in his five previous appearances at this venue. The last three opponents have been Benfica, Young Boys and Braga. There’s no reason why he can’t score again on Wednesday night.

  • Sporting vs Atalanta Tip 1: Viktor Gyokeres AGS (TRACKED BET)
  • Best Odds: 2.60
  • Bookmaker: bet365
  • Stake: 4/10

Sporting vs Atalanta Tip 2: Teun’s Terrific 2024

I don’t think there are many players in better form than Teun Koopmeiners at this current time. Atalanta’s Dutchman has been on fire in 2024. The 26-year-old has scored in six of his seven starts this calendar year.

Koopmeiners is another player who’s receiving plenty of praise. He’ll be in for a big-money move over the summer. I’m sure. He can’t let his performance levels slow down, and I’m sure they won’t. He’s a man with an eye for goal. His price for a Shot on Target is a big one.

Teun has recorded a Shot on Target in seven of his previous eight starts. He fired a blank in Atalanta’s heavy defeat against a rampant Inter last weekend. His season average isn’t overly impressive, but his form since the turn of the year has made me want to side with the player.

Koopmeiners will operate just behind the front two. He’s the designated penalty taker for his side, which boosts our chances. This selection landed when these sides met in Italy at the end of November. Here’s hoping our man can continue his fantastic form.

  • Sporting vs Atalanta Tip 2: Teun Koopmeiners Over 0.5 Shots On Target (TRACKED BET)
  • Best Odds: 2.10
  • Bookmaker: bet365
  • Stake: 5/10

Sporting vs Atalanta Tip 3: Impressive Offences

This encounter is hopefully going to be full of entertainment. With two sides who know where the back of the net is, I don’t want to shy away from the goal market. Opening legs in knockout matches can be slow and methodical, with the visitors often playing a cautious approach. Yes, we may see Atalanta arrive here a little less offensive-minded, but with Sporting’s firepower, it’s difficult to envisage a dull 90 minutes.

There is no doubt that the home side will score on Wednesday night. Marseille was the last side to play here and keep a clean sheet. That encounter was in October 2022. Ruben Amorim’s side has scored multiple goals here, against Benfica, Braga, and Porto over the last few months. They’re a side that thrives on playing in front of the home support.

Atalanta have been here already this season and won. They’ll take confidence from that. Gasperini’s men are currently in better form than they were when they defeated the Portuguese side.

Koopmeiners, Lookman, De Ketelaere, Scamacca and Miranchuk can all cause damage on their day. Atalanta have scored 18 with 20 going in at the other end in their 13 Serie A away days. The side from Bergamo has scored in ten of their previous 11 outings across all venues and competitions.

  • Sporting vs Atalanta Tip 3: Over 2.75 Goals (TRACKED BET)
  • Best Odds: 2.03
  • Bookmaker: bet365
  • Stake: 5/10

Sporting vs Atalanta Prediction odds via bet365 as at 09:00, March 1st, 2024. Odds may now differ.

Sporting vs Atalanta Team News and Possible Lineups: Full Squads Ready For Battle

Paulinho appears to be the only current injury doubt for the hosts. Viktor Gyokeres is the biggest threat. Sporting will play with three central defenders, with Hjulmand and Morita in the middle of the park. This is a well-coached side that will give Atalanta problems.

Atalanta have a tricky Serie A clash with Bologna on Sunday afternoon. Their injury list looks non-existent at this current moment, which is rather impressive.

Koopmeiners is the player to look out for. The Dutchman has been on fire in recent weeks. Atalanta will play a very similar style to their Portuguese opposition.

Sporting possible starting lineup:
Adan; Inacio, Coates, Diomande, Esgaio, Reis, Hjulmand, Morita, Goncalves, Edwards; Gyokeres

Atalanta possible starting lineup:
Carnesecchi; Djimsti, Scalvini, Kolasinac, Zappacosta, Holm, Ederson, De Roon, Koopmeiners, De Ketelaere; Lookman
