Man United won against Fulham in dramatic fashion. in the FA Cup to progress to the semi-finals. The Red Devils are still fighting for a spot in the top four as well as a Europa League and FA Cup trophy. With three fronts still open, the squad will need rotation.

Erik ten Hag has been rotating and testing players at different positions recently and we sat down to have a talk with the former Man United defender, Mikael Silvestre, to talk about Jadon Sancho, Bruno Fernandes and Wout Weghorst.

In this article:

“Sancho can play all three positions up front”

Silvestre says that Jadon Sancho can play all three positions up front, which he sees as a luxury problem and claims that a lot of managers dream of a player like him.

“Sancho can play three positions up front. That’s a real bonus for him and the manager.”

“To be honest, it’s hard to say what’s his best position. I believe has those qualities that he can surprise you on either flank or up top.”

“I don’t think we need to put him in one box. He’s a real modern forward that a lot of managers dream of.”

Fernandes is best when he plays as an attacking midfielder

Recently Ten Hag has used Bruno Fernandes in a deeper role, rather than the number ten role he has become accustomed to and Silvestre says that Bruno Fernandes’ best position is as an attacking midfielder.

“I think it depends on the opponent but I still believe that when Bruno Fernandes is behind the strikers that’s where he’s the most effective.”

“He’s not against the idea of defending but his skill set is more on the attacking side. The closer to goal he is, the more he can deliver crosses, little balls over the defence and set pieces.”

“It’s good that he can do the job and play in a deeper role but for he’s more of an attacking mid than a No. 8.”

Weghorst´s response on his new position has been good

Also, Wout Weghorst has played more like a withdrawn forward recently and Silvestre thinks that he has handled that change quite well.

“Weghorst has played a bit deeper for United and he’s done okay.”

“It’s hard for someone to come into the team in the middle of the season and to adapt and perform to the best of his abilities. So I think his response is good.”

“His adaptation is pretty good because it’s a new role and it’s not easy.”
