Serhou Guirassy isn’t good enough for United
According to reports Manchester United are interested in signing Serhou Guirassy from Stuttgart in January as Erik ten Hag attempts to provide competition for the £72m Rasmus Højlund in attack. With the likes of Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Antony all misfiring, United could certainly do with a boost in the final third. However, Silvestre isn’t convinced that Guirassy is the answer.
“No, I don´t think Guirassy has the level to play for Man United, so I would go elsewhere in terms of a striker. I think Højlund will succeed at Man United, he just needs a bit more time.”
“The dynamic of the team right now is not great but I believe he can succeed.”
United’s structural issues to blame for tame attack
United’s attackers such as Højlund, Rashford, Martial and Antony have collectively struggled and have not been able to click in the league. Silvestre believes the overall team and structural issues are impacting the likes of Rashford and Højlund.
“It’s difficult to say. I think it’s a mix of the collective performance not being at their best and the team not being dominant.”
“Rashford has been struggling to find his form and Højlund was injured in the beginning.”
“The team is not at their best collectively, so it’s difficult for the individuals to perform well.”
Garnacho needs to focus on the basics
Alejandro Garnacho of course scored a sensational goal against Everton and was able to follow it up with the opener against Galatasarey last week. The winger has shown he is capable of scoring but what does he need to improve to become an undisputed starter for Manchester United?
“Garnacho is young, so he needs more experience and more games to develop. Sometimes he is a bit erratic and he is rushing into challenges, where he is not making the right decisions.”
“But that’s how it is with young players and we just have to be patient and Erik ten Hag has to be patient as well.”
“With time and experience he will be more consistent, also in his decision making. The manager is demanding a lot from him but he needs to just stay focused and his basics needs to be right because he is over complicating things a bit.”
Garnacho has the X-factor to follow Giggs, Beckham and Ronaldo
United have a long and rich history of producing star wingers such as Ryan Giggs, David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo. Many either hope or expect Garnacho to follow the lineage of wingers to make a mark at Old Trafford. Silvestre believes the Argentine has a long way to go but has the right mentality to follow in the footsteps of those that have gone before him.
“He has the X-factor but he is still a long way from Ronaldo, Giggs and so on. His stats will improve but he has a lot of work to do.”
“He is fighting for the team and he has the right mentality, so I think his goal and assist contribution will increase.”
