Manchester United have a big week ahead of them as they look to seal their place in the Carabao Cup final and then bounce back in the Premier League after a loss to Arsenal at the Emirates.

The Red Devils are scheduled to take on Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford in the second leg of the Carabao Cup, having won 3-0 at City Ground on 25th January. After that, they’ll be hosting Crystal Palace on Sunday, hoping to exact some measure of revenge for that stupendous Michael Olise free-kick that levelled proceedings at Selhurst Park in January.

Silvestre on Carabao Cup Semi-Final Second Leg

To discuss these games, we talked to former Manchester United defender, Mikael Silvestre, who gave his view on what a Carabao Cup final would mean for Erik ten Hag as well as what United will have to improve on in getting a result against Palace.

With a 3-0 win in the first leg, Erik ten Hag’s men are in pole position to reach the Carabao Cup final, barring any sort of monumental capitulation.

Silvestre expressed his view that it would be a great achievement for ten Hag to reach a final in his first season but it is more important to win them.

“Reaching a final in his first season would be a very good start but you have to win the finals.”

“Winning the final would be excellent. It would bring even more confidence and give the team a boost and a taste of what it takes to get to a final and win it. It would be great.”

He also iterated the need for United to keep their head in the game and finish the job.

“First of all they have to win against Forest and finish the job. Continue being positive and keep a clean sheet.”

Previewing United vs Palace on Saturday

Moving on to the Premier League, Silvestre talked about United’s next game against Crystal Palace, saying that despite their inconsistency, the Eagles will be a tough side to face and their attackers will cause issues.

“All Premier League games are difficult. Palace are tough opposition. They are a team that is lacking consistency.

“Palace have got good attacking players. It will be a big job for the back six and a goalkeeper at Old Trafford.”

Silvestre then says that getting a win at Old Trafford is important if United want to stay in the mix for the top four.

“At Old Trafford it’s crucial to win.”

“United want to stay in the mix for the top four and keep up with the front runners.”

How United can Improve after Draw with Palace Last Month

The five-time Premier League winner also pointed out where he believes United need to improve in order to get a better result than the one they had at Selhurst Park, expressing that one goal won’t be enough to beat the Eagles.

“Not long ago was the away game so it’s important to stop the main threats and to take our chances.”

“United need to take their chances. There were opportunities in the first game.”

“Palace are dangerous and will be dangerous during the 90 minutes. One goal won’t be enough to beat Palace.”
