Serie A Early, Early Bird Acca Tips: Italian football nears a much-anticipated return
Serie A Early, Early Bird Acca Tips: 26th July, 2023
With three teams reaching last year’s European competitions finals, football fans across the globe have rediscovered Serie A charm. Although Italian sides can’t compete with Europe (and Saudi Arabia) big spenders and, as a result, have lost some of their key players, like Sandro Tonali, Kim Min-jae and Sergej Milinković-Savić, in the transfer market, Serie A’s pool of talent is still vast, and the upcoming campaign is expected to be more competitive than ever.

Frosinone vs Napoli Acca Tips: A comfortable curtain-raiser for Champions
Italy, Serie A, Saturday, 19th August, 5.30pm
Last year Napoli enjoyed a blistering start winning 13 of their first 15 games, and were crowned champions with five games to spare.
They won the third Scudetto of their history thanks to the best attack (77 goals) and best defence (28 goals conceded) in Italy’s top-flight.
Their new manager, Frenchman Rudi Garcia, likes his teams to play on the front foot and mostly uses a 4-3-3 formation, so, at least initially, we should not see a huge difference with Luciano Spalletti’s style of play.
Last year Napoli only lost two Serie A away games, but the 2-0 defeat at Monza happened when they had already won the title, and against newly promoted sides, they collected 13 out of 18 points.
Napoli were not only spectacular to watch but also extremely solid, keeping 16 clean sheets. Away from home, they only conceded 13 goals, the second-best defence behind Lazio.
Frosinone vs Napoli Best Bet
Frosinone looks a bit like an unknown quantity. They also got a new manager, Eusebio Di Francesco, and have changed more than half of the starting eleven who last year got them promoted to Serie A for the third time in their history.
Di Francesco shares with Garcia the same passion for attacking football, but his new team might lack the quality and experience to go toe-to-toe with the reigning champions. This might turn out to be a comfortable debut for Napoli, who’ll dominate possession and create plenty of chances.

Inter vs Monza Acca Tips: The former surprise package to have their say
Italy, Serie A, Saturday, 19th August, 7.45pm
Despite finishing 18 points behind Napoli and losing 12 Serie A games last season, Inter is currently considered the favourite (3.25 on UniBet) to win the Scudetto.
Their domestic season was disappointing (although they won their second Coppa Italia in a row), but their European campaign exceeded expectations.
In a tighter-than-expected Champions League final against Manchester City, they’ve shown all the qualities that a great team should possess: organisation, team spirit and plenty of quality with the ball.
Inter’s objective this season is to win the title so as to add a second star to their black and blue shirt. To do that, they must avoid squandering points at the beginning of the campaign as they did last year when they lost four out of their opening eight matches.
Under Simone Inzaghi, the Neroazzurri play an attacking 3-5-2 formation and last year scored 71 goals in Serie A, only six less than champions Napoli.
Inter vs Monza Best Bet
In 2022/2023, Inter failed to score four times at home, and one of those occasions was against Monza. The Brianzoli were the surprise package of Serie A as they finished eleventh in their first-ever participation in the top division.
They were the only side not to be involved in a 0-0 draw, scored 23 goals away from home and defeated the likes of Juventus, Bologna and Sassuolo.
Playing the first match at San Siro is not straightforward, but they’ll approach the game with no fear and will create chances.
- Selection: Both teams to score
- Best Odds: 1.91 (Bet365)
- Stakes: 8/10
Roma vs Salernitana Acca Tips: Tight and cagey, just how Mourinho likes it
Italy, Serie A, Sunday, 20th August, 5.30pm
With José Mourinho in charge for the third year in a row, the enthusiasm around the Giallorossi remains high. The Portuguese manager has led the team to two European finals and has helped to strengthen players’ self-belief and mentality.
However, in the last two seasons, Roma have finished below fourth place, and this has hindered their finances and ability to recruit enough top-class players. The arrivals of defender Evan Ndicka and Houssem Aouar, both as free transfers, have added depth to the side whose main problem, at the moment, remains how to create scoring opportunities.
Mourinho has built a side that is solid and hard to break down but rarely imposes its style of play on the opponents. Roma have become the masters of tight margins: last year, they won seven games 1-0 and three games 2-0, scoring only 28 goals in their 19 domestic league games.
Roma vs Salernitana Best Bet
Salernitana were the opposite: a high-scoring side (48 in total, the 11th best Serie A attack), with a leaky defence (62 goals conceded, the third worse total in the league).
They finished the season strongly, losing only two of their last 15 games while scoring 23 goals, and got a 2-2 draw against Roma at the Olimpico back in May.
However, being this the first match of the season and with Roma being the favourite to win the game, I feel Mourinho’s men might prevail in a tight encounter.
- Selection: Under 2.5 goals
