Sassuolo vs Torino Prediction: Team News and Lineups Preview
Sassuolo vs Torino prediction, team news, standings and lineups preview - IMAGO / Nicolo Campo - Karol Linetty of Torino FC looks on during the Serie A football match between Torino FC and FC Internazionale.

A tight and tetchy affair is expected in Italy and Matthew O’Regan has his Sassuolo vs Torino prediction, team news, standings and lineups preview. Only the bottom two in Serie A have scored less than Torino, while only the top two have conceded fewer than them. On the other hand, only 14th place Frosinone and bottom club Salernitana have conceded more than Sassuolo – making for an intriguing affair.

Sassuolo vs Torino Tip 1: Drab Affair Expected

Italy, Serie A , Saturday, February 10th 19:45 (UK)

Sassuolo are struggling this season, sat 15th, just one point clear of relegation. This is largely due to their leaky defence, which has conceded 41 goals, with only Salernitana and Frosinone (44) conceding more.

I Neroverdi play expansive, attacking football, preferring fast build-ups, often leading to their downfall in transitions. With attacking talents such as Armand Lauriente, Andrea Pinamonti and Domenico Beradi amidst their ranks, it is no surprise that Alessio Dionisi favours an attack-first mentality.

This is reflected in their xG, averaging 1.42 per game- the sixth-highest in the league.

They face off against a Torino side that sits 10th in the league. Il Toro have scored 20 goals this season, with only the bottom two clubs (Empoli and Salernitana) scoring less. However, their defence has been formidable. With 19 goals conceded, only Inter Milan and Juventus have conceded fewer.

In fact, Torino’s games have averaged only 1.77 goals per game. Away from home, Ivan Juric’s side have won just three games, accumulating only a 1.04 xG per game. Despite their impressive defence, they have conceded an average of 1.44 xG per away game.

Even though Torino are favourites, I am backing a bet that has landed in 8/11 away games for Torino.

  • Sassuolo vs Torino Tip 1: Sassuolo Double Chance and Under 5 Goals
  • Best Odds: 1.80
  • Bookmaker: bet365
  • Stake: 8/10

Sassuolo vs Torino Tip 2: Lairy Linetty

Torino’s rigid 3-4-1-2 formation provides them immense defensive stability, with midfield duo Samuele Ricci and Karol Linetty the hub of the team. Tough-tackling pole Linetty is the defensive steel in the side.

In 10 starts this season, the 29-year-old has picked up seven yellows- a whooping 0.67 yellows per 90. He also makes 2.22 fouls per 90, showing he’s not afraid to do the dirty work.

It should be a cagey and scrappy midfield battle with Kristian Thorstvedt, who draws 1.41 fouls per 90, as well as Matheus Henrique, who draws 1.19. Centre midfielders against Sassuolo have received 13 yellows and one red, and with a centre mid this card-happy, don’t be surprised to see Linetty in the book.

  • Sassuolo vs Torino Tip 2: Karol Linetty to be carded
  • Best Odds: x
  • Bookmaker: bet365
  • Stake: 8/10

Sassuolo vs Torino Tip 3: Cagey Midfield Battle

Kristian Thorsvedt is expected to start in the midfield for the hosts. The Norwegian has picked up four yellows in 15 starts – an average of 0.28 per game. He makes 1.48 fouls per 90.

With Sassuolo favouring attacking play, the 24-year-old is often the deepest midfielder, tasked with breaking up the play or making cynical fouls. He will likely face off against Karol Linetty, who is fouled 1.37 per 90, and Samuel Ricci, who is fouled 1.15 per 90.

All together this season, ten central midfielders have been booked against Torino.

  • Sassuolo vs Torino Tip 3: Kristian Thorsvedt to be booked
  • Best Odds: x
  • Bookmaker: bet365
  • Stake: 5/10

Sassuolo vs Torino Team News and Possible Lineups: Both Teams Missing Key Players

Sassuolo heads into this game missing captain and talisman Domenico Berardi. The 29-year-old has nine goals in 16 starts for an inconsistent team, so it is a big miss. Samu Castillejo and Gregoire Defrel are also missing from the Sassuolo attack.

They are also without centre-back Marash Kumbulla, central-midfielder Pedro Obiang and right-back Jeremy Tolijan.

Despite a host of forward absentees for the hosts, they can take solace in the fact that star centre-backs Alessandro Buongiorno and Perr Schuurs are absent for the visitors.

Sassuolo possible starting lineup:
Consigli; Pedersen, Erlic, Ferrari,Doig; Thorstvedt, Boloca, Bajrami; Lauriente,Volpato; Pinamonti

Torino possible starting lineup:
Milinkovic-Savic; Tameze, Sasonov, Rodriguez; Bellanova, Ricci, Linetty, Lazaro; Vlasic; Sanabria, Zapata
