Welcome to our Reims vs Marseille prediction, team news, lineups and fixtures preview in Ligue 1. Marseille are still in the hunt to finish in a European spot and will most likely end in sixth place if they can win their final two matches. They travel to face managerless Reims in the wake of Will Still leaving by mutual consent last week. Reims are landlocked in mid-table but recently held Brest to a 1-1 draw. Ligue 1 expert Steve Wyss previews the match in detail, looking for three of his best bets.

Reims vs Marseille Prediction 1: Must-Win

France, Ligue 1, Wednesday 15th May, 20:00 (UK)

The biggest problem for Marseille this season in Ligue 1 has been their terrible away record, which is the second-worst in the division. OM have managed to win just 2 out of 15 road games, but they have a chance to finish the season with consecutive victories on their travels, and this is something they should achieve. Marseille recently won back-to-back fixtures in Ligue 1 for the first time since early March. They have some momentum again, and if they win their last two matches, then sixth place is probably theirs to grab.

We are now at the stage of the season where motivation must be considered when betting on games. Reims are landlocked in mid-table and, at worst, will finish 13th this year. A high-profile, young, talented manager, Will Still recently left the club with mutual consent. Samba Diawara is in temporary charge for the remainder of the season and he obtained a 1-1 draw away to Brest on Friday night. They were outplayed, though, and probably deserved to lose. Reims have had an extra two days of rest ahead of this game, but the sheer need for Marseille to get the points shouldn’t be underestimated. Taking them on a -0.25 Asian handicap at least offers some security in case of a draw, but OM can get the job done.

  • Reims vs Marseille Prediction 1: Marseille -0.25 Asian Handicap (TRACKED BET)
  • Best Odds: 1.95
  • Bookmaker: bet365
  • Stake: 7/10

Reims vs Marseille Prediction 2: High scoring end to the season in Ligue 1 set to continue

As often happens at the end of any league season, the goals are starting to pile up in Ligue 1. Round 31 contained a record number of goals, and not a single team kept a clean sheet. We haven’t seen quite so many goals in the penultimate round so far, but the matches have been very open and full of chances. This isn’t a surprise because by this stage of the campaign teams are often tired, there is not as much to play for and there is more of a feeling that players want to take the shackles off and enjoy themselves. Pitches and weather are usually in better condition as well.

Goals have been a theme in Marseille matches ever since Jean Louis-Gasset took over at the end of February. Of the 18 games he has managed them in, 13 have resulted in over 2.5 goals. At least two goals have been scored in every Marseille fixture since Gasset has been at the helm. The Mediterranean giants have become an automatic overs bet team with him in charge. That is why the Asian goal line of 2.75 looks quite attractive to back. Reims have hardly been watertight in recent games, conceding ten goals in their last four games. This should be an entertaining game, with Marseille capable of covering the line on their own if needed.

  • Reims vs Marseille Prediction 2: Over 2.75 Asian Goals (TRACKED BET)
  • Best Odds: 1.90
  • Bookmaker: bet365
  • Stake: 8/10

Reims vs Marseille Prediction 3: Aubameyang to continue strong season in front of goal

One transfer that Marseille did get right this season was signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on a free. He started slowly but now scored 16 goals in 32 Ligue 1 appearances. He has scored 27 goals in all competitions this season and been a leading light for OM. The rest of their individuals are too patchy and can’t be trusted to score goals, but Aubameyang is a proven option to hit the back of the net and is a no-brainer bet to score anytime in this game.

He can be backed at 2.20 to score anytime, which looks a perfectly acceptable price on the former Arsenal man. Aubameyang snapped a two-game scoreless streak by bagging a brace versus Lorient over the weekend. His confidence should be nicely topped off and he has been in especially good form domestically netting four goals in his last three Ligue 1 matches. It’s a must-win game for Marseille, and he’s leading the line. Also, he’s on penalty kick duties, so this looks like one of the best bets of the match.

  • Reims vs Marseille Prediction 3: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to Score Anytime (TRACKED BET)
  • Best Odds: 2.20
  • Bookmaker: bet365
  • Stake: 6/10

Reims vs Marseille Team News and Possible Lineups: Balerdi returns from suspension for OM

Reims have injury doubts to defenders Maxime Busi, Joseph Oukumu and Mohamed Daramy. Thibault De Smet could return from suspension at left back.

Marseille have a better injury situation at the moment with few casualties. Argentinian defender Leonardo Balerdi should return from suspension straight into the starting XI.

Reims possible starting lineup:
Diouf, De Smet, Abdelhamid, Agbadou, Abdoul Kone, Teuma, Amadou Kone, Munetsi Nakamura, Diakhite, Ito

Marseille possible starting lineup:
Lopez, Balerdi, Gigot, Mbemba, Luis Henrique, Veretout, Gueye, Murillo, Aubameyang, Sarr, Moumbagna

Match Stats: Dismal road record for Marseille

  • Marseille have the second worst away record in Ligue 1 with just two victories all season
  • Reims have only won 3 out of 15 games since the winter break
  • Reims are the least fouled team in Ligue 1 (9.30 per game)
  • Marseille have the third highest expected points in the division (56.58) but have only obtained 47 – the biggest underachievement of any side in Ligue 1.

Reims Fixtures: Two home games to finish off the season

  • Vs Rennes (H)

Marseille Fixtures: Trip to the Normandy coast to end the campaign

  • Vs Le Havre (A)
