PSG vs Newcastle Bet Builder Tips: PSG Bounce Back
PSG HT/FT
The whole season often revolves around the Champions League for PSG. It is their #1 priority competition and one of the main reasons why Luis Enrique was hired as their manager last summer. PSG should come out of the traps quickly, similar to how they did against Milan a few weeks ago here. Last season, they led at HT in all home group games, and the expectation is that they will put a depleted Newcastle under significant pressure. The Toon struggled mightily against Dortmund in their last away trip, and it would be a tough ask for them to get anything out of this match. PSG should certainly win inside 90 mins, but because of a likely strong start, then taking HT/FT on the French Champions also looks good.
PSG to score over 2.5 goals
PSG have scored at least two goals in 7 of their last 8 home group games in the Champions League. Only Benfica managed to restrict them to less than that mark (1-1) during the previous campaign. PSG have a reputation for choking in the knockout rounds, but they have been group monsters for quite some time, and the Parc des Princes is a strong fortress at this stage of the competition.
They have dominated both home games so far in this group, comfortably dispatching Dortmund 2-0 and Milan 3-0. Both of those teams are seasoned Champions League operators, so in theory, this should be easier against a rookie Newcastle unit. PSG will be intent on revenge after their humiliation at St James’ Park, and it wouldn’t surprise me if they tried to put the Magpies to the sword. Scoring at least three goals is well within their reach.
Kylian Mbappe to score anytime
Newcastle managed to completely nullify Kylian Mbappe in the reverse fixture, leading to a fair amount of criticism towards the French captain. Mbappe is not the sort of player who will just take that lying down, though. We can expect him to be at his exuberant best in front of his own fans, hell bent on avenging Newcastle.
The world class star was in relatively poor form the last time these teams met, but he’s since been red hot scoring 13 goals in 10 games and also supplying 10 assists. The Toon can expect a different and more challenging Mbappe in this contest and it’d be a surprise if he didn’t find the back of the net. It’s something he has managed in both home Champions League matches so far this season, and he should add to that tally here.
