PSG’s tails should be up following their 2-0 Champions League victory vs Borussia Dortmund, and I expect them to come out of the traps quickly here. They have a tremendous record in this fixture, and most of the top PSG players raise their levels in such a big contest, which is shown worldwide.
If we consider the fact that PSG will likely come out hot, then it makes sense to look at the HT/FT market. I am pretty confident the home team will deliver a victory over the full 90 minutes and lead at the interval. Marseille are currently in crisis with the resignation of Marcelino as manager, and they also head into this contest after playing Thursday night in the Europa League away to Ajax.
OM are unbeaten domestically but have faced some fairly soft opponents. This is by far a more formidable challenge, which I think they will fail miserably.
Kylian Mbappé to Score Anytime
It is impossible to oppose Kylian Mbappé right now because he looks red hot. Even more worrying for his opponents, there is a feeling that there’s potentially more in the tank, and he has yet to reach peak sharpness. He can be backed at 1.80 to score anytime in this game, which already, on its own, looks far too big.
The French national team captain has netted in all of his PSG fixtures this term, including a brace in each of the last three Ligue 1 matches. In games like this, he really loves to be the main man, and of course, it helps he is on penalty duty. This is the type of game in which Marseille does something silly and gives away a spot kick, especially with referee Willy Delajod in charge, who tends to give a lot of fouls.
Kylian Mbappé Over 3.5 Shots
I think it also makes sense to be backing Mbappé’s shots in this game. He fired in five efforts vs Dortmund in midweek, of which just one was on target. In these higher profile fixtures, he tends to take it upon himself to try more and knows that sometimes his own individual skill and attempts can be the difference maker.
The more selfish version of the player comes out of the woodwork, which often benefits the team. He currently averages exactly five shots per game in Ligue 1 anyway, and taking him to have over 3.5 shots, according to Opta data here, seems well within reach. As aforementioned, I expect him to chance his luck more often here, looking for his own goals rather than laying on assists.
