Brighton vs Manchester United: Tactical Battle at the Amex

England, Premier League, Saturday, 24th August 12:30 (UK)

Brighton made a dream start to life under Fabian Hurzeler last weekend as they thrashed Everton 3-0 at Goodison Park. The Seagulls appear to have got another managerial appointment spot on after choosing to part ways with Roberto De Zerbi in the summer.

Manchester United, like last season, won their opening game 1-0 at Old Trafford. However, they looked far more secure defensively this time around. Erik Ten Hag’s defensive setup was heavily criticised last season but they appear to have taken steps to address those issues this summer. The Red Devils’ victory at the Amex Arena in May was their first win over Brighton in four league matches.

The Seagulls’ matches last season saw an average of 27.11 shots per game. It’s evident that the new manager what’s to alter the style of play a little and there were very few shots despite them beating Everton with ease. Brighton had 10 of the 19 shots in the match.

Erik Ten Hag’s side conceded the second most shots in the Premier League last season but they appear to have improved in that regard ahead of this season. There were 24 shots in their clash with Fulham last weekend. The Wembley meeting with Manchester City saw just 17 shots.

  • Selection: Under 27.5 Shots In The Match (TRACKED BET)
  • Best Odds: 1.83
  • Bookmaker: bet365
  • Stake: 8/10

Southampton vs Nottingham Forest: The Saints to Let Fly

England, Premier League, Saturday, 24th August 15:00 (UK)

Southampton played against 10 men for the majority of their first game back in the Premier League. The Saints had plenty of possession and were able to create chances but failed to score that crucial goal. They wound up losing 1-0 to Newcastle. Russel Martin will be hoping his side can get off the mark in their first home match.

Nottingham Forest had to settle for a draw last weekend. The odds suggest they will be involved in a relegation battle this season so this trip to St. Mary’s could prove to be key. Nuno Espirito Santo will have other ideas as the team attempts to avoid slugging it out near the bottom.

The Saint’s attack was what carried them to promotion via the playoffs last season. They scored the third most goals in the league with an average of 1.86 but more importantly for this bet, they averaged 15.18 shots per game.

Forest conceded an average of 14 shots per away game last season. They conceded 13 attempts when they hosted Bournemouth last weekend and 19 the last time they played Southampton.

  • Selection: Over 12.5 Shots For Southampton (TRACKED BET)
  • Best Odds: 1.72
  • Bookmaker: bet365
  • Stake: 8/10

Crystal Palace vs West Ham: The Hammers’ New-Found Attacking Impetus

England, Premier League, Saturday, 24th August 15:00 (UK)

Crystal Palace have lost some key players in the summer and it’ll be interesting to see how they fare as this season unfolds. Oliver Glasner made an immediate impact when he came into the club last season but the team lost their opening game of this campaign against Brentford.

West Ham chose Julen Lopetegui as the man to replace David Moyes. The former Real Madrid boss has been backed with big spending so there is hope that the Hammers can mount an assault on the European places.

The Eagles have been exceptional under Glasner. They have conceded an average of just 10.29 shots per league game under the new boss but there is a lot to like about West Ham.

Loptegui’s side may have lost to Aston Villa last weekend but the manager will have been happy with what he saw. West Ham finished the game with an xG of 2.46 and racked up a total of 14 shots. Therefore, we are backing them to have 11 shots or more on Saturday.

  • Selection: Over 10.5 Shots For West Ham (TRACKED BET)
  • Best Odds: 1.72
  • Bookmaker: bet365
  • Stake: 7/10

Aston Villa vs Arsenal: Both Sides Braced for Battle

England, Premier League, Saturday, 24th August 17:30 (UK)

Aston Villa did the double over Arsenal last season without conceding a single goal. They beat Arteta’s side 1-0 at Villa Park back in December. Their win at the Emirates in April proved to be the decisive factor in the title race. Unai Emery’s side made a winning start at West Ham last weekend but could make a big statement by beating Arsenal.

The Gunners closed the gap on Manchester City last season, losing the title race by just two points. Arsenal are undoubtedly one of the best teams in Europe but they need the silverware to show for their efforts.

Both of these sides’ matches ranked poorly for tackles last season. Aston Villa’s league games saw 33.61 tackles on average but that didn’t stop the numbers soaring their clashes with Arsenal. There were a whopping 52 tackles in this fixture in the last campaign. The Villains’ win over West Ham last weekend saw 38 tackles.

Arsenal’s win over Wolves last weekend saw 37 tackles. There were 39 tackles when they last took on Aston Villa so the line looks a little low here.

  • Selection: Over 36.5 Tackles In The Match (TRACKED BET)
  • Best Odds: 1.83
  • Bookmaker: bet365
  • Stake: 8/10

Bournemouth vs Newcastle: Iraola Increasing the Tackle Numbers

England, Premier League, Sunday, 25th August 14:00 (UK)

Bournemouth needed a late goal from Antoine Semenyo to salvage a draw at Nottingham Forest last weekend. The loss of Dominic Solanke is likely to be hard felt and it’ll be interesting to see if they have the necessary firepower to beat Newcastle here.

Eddie Howe’s side fell short of expectations last season but injuries played a massive part. The team failed to qualify for Europe after Manchester United won the FA Cup. Newcastle are targeting a return to the Champions League this season and will be buoyed by last weekend’s win over Southampton.

Andoni Iraola has got Bournemouth pressing up the pitch and that has increased their tackle numbers. In the 2022/23 season, the Cherries made an average of 16.29 tackles per game. That increased to 18.24 per game under Iraola.

Newcastle forced an average of 18.08 tackles per game last season but the stats when they played Bournemouth show more promise. The Cherries made 27 tackles in this fixture last season. This bet also landed in the meeting at St. James’s Park with Iraola’s team managing to make 22 tackles.

  • Selection: Over 18.5 Tackles For Bournemouth (TRACKED BET)
  • Best Odds: 1.72
  • Bookmaker: bet365
  • Stake: 8/10

Liverpool vs Brentford: The Reds Always Show Fight at Anfield

England, Premier League, Sunday, 25th August 16:30 (UK)

Liverpool were poor in the first half against Ipswich but Arne Slot made the necessary adjustments at halftime for his team to go and record a 2-0 win. There are a lot of question marks surrounding the Reds following the departure of Jurgen Klopp. However, the new boss is targeting trophies in his first season.

Brentford got the better of Crystal Palace last weekend. 2-1 was a fair result, with Thomas Frank’s side creating more high-quality chances. Ivan Toney is widely expected to depart the club in the coming days so it’s unlikely he will be in the squad that goes to Anfield having missed the game against Palace.

Arne Slot’s approach appears more patient than Klopp’s which could bring tackle numbers down but the bookmaker’s bet line looks low here. Liverpool averaged 19.21 tackles per league game at Anfield last season. Their five pre-season matches under Slot saw an average of 14.8 tackles.

The Bees forced the fewest tackles in the top flight in the last campaign but this bet still landed in both of their encounters with Liverpool. Brentford forced 16 tackles when they hosted the Reds and 20 when they made the trip to Anfield.

  • Selection: Over 14.5 Tackles For Liverpool (TRACKED BET)
  • Best Odds: 1.72
  • Bookmaker: bet365
  • Stake: 7/10
