Newcastle vs Tottenham: Geordies on the Front Foot
England, Premier League, Saturday, 13th April, 12:30 (UK)
Newcastle welcome Tottenham to St. James’s Park on Saturday as they look to avenge their 4-1 defeat earlier in the season. Eddie Howe’s side secured 4th place in the Premier League last season. However, they are 13 points behind this weekend’s opponents who currently occupy that spot.
Ange Postecoglou’s side beat Nottingham Forest 3-1 in London last weekend, but their recent away matches have yielded poor results. They have won just one of their last six matches on the road. That run will have to improve if they are to remain ahead of Aston Villa.
Despite their struggles this season, the Magpies have remained a force at St. James’s Park. They have suffered just three defeats in 16 league matches at home. Those games have seen them average 17.13 shots. Newcastle have had 14 or more attempts in their last five league game in front of their own fans.
Tottenham are conceding 13.33 shots per Premier League away game this season. This is slightly below the required mark, but the home side had 25 shots the last time Spurs visited this ground.
- Selection: Over 13.5 Shots For Newcastle (TRACKED BET)
- Best Odds: 1.83
- Bookmaker: bet365
- Stake: 8/10
Brentford vs Sheffield United: Blades Under Pressure
England, Premier League, Saturday, 13th April, 15:00 (UK)
Brentford have drawn their last three home matches. Thoma Frank’s side hammered Manchester United in that run but were unable to secure the three points their performance warranted. They are now on a run of nine matches without a win. The Bees will take a huge step towards survival by picking up the win this weekend.
Sheffield United are three points adrift at the bottom of the league and nine points from safety. Chris Wilder’s return has seen performances improve slightly but this hasn’t translated to points on the board. It really is now or never as they dream of one of the division’s greatest escapes.
Thomas Frank’s side are averaging 13.9 shots per home game this season but they are capable of hitting higher numbers. They had 31 attempts in the 1-1 draw with Manchester United. The Red Devils are the side who rank closest to Sheffield United in terms of shots conceded.
The Blades are conceding the most shots in the Premier League, with an average of 18.06 per game. Their five away matches in 2024 have seen them concede an average of 21.2 shots, and we should see them under the cosh once again.
- Selection: Over 16.5 Shots For Brentford (TRACKED BET)
- Best Odds: 1.90
- Bookmaker: bet365
- Stake: 8/10
Bournemouth vs Manchester United: Wayward Efforts Mean Goal Kicks
England, Premier League, Saturday, 13th April, 17:30 (UK)
Bournemouth’s run of three straight victories came to an end as they were beaten by Luton in their last match. Andoni Iraola will be pleased with the work he has done this season. His side have a total of 41 points but the highlight is undoubtedly their 3-0 win at Old Trafford.
Manchester United rode their luck as they earned a point against Liverpool last weekend. Erik Ten Hag’s continue to afford their opponents plenty of opportunities to score and that could haunt them once again on Saturday. They come into the weekend 11 points behind Aston Villa.
The Cherries matches don’t rank highly in terms of goal kicks but expect this match to be very end-to-end. They have the quality to hurt the visitors and there has been a revealing trend in recent Manchester United matches.
United’s defensive frailties have been scrutinised heavily since the turn of the year. They continue to create chances, but the high-risk approach means we see plenty of shots and, therefore, plenty of goal kicks. Their nine away matches across all competitions in 2024 have seen an average of 17.44 goal kicks per game.
- Selection: Over 15.5 Goal Kicks In The Match (TRACKED BET)
- Best Odds: 1.83
- Bookmaker: bet365
- Stake: 7/10
Liverpool vs Crystal Palace: Expect a Lower Throw Count
England, Premier League, Sunday, 14th April, 14:00 (UK)
Liverpool surrendered top spot in the Premier League last weekend when they drew 2-2 at Old Trafford. They come into the weekend behind Arsenal on goal difference and with Manchester City just a point behind. Jurgen Klopp will be hoping his side can secure their 14th home win in the league in emphatic fashion this weekend.
Crystal Palace were beaten 4-2 by Manchester City last weekend. They took an early lead but were unable to keep Pep’s rampant attack out for long. The Eagles are currently five points above the relegation zone and could get dragged right into the mix if results don’t go their way.
The Premier League has seen fewer throws this season and that trend has been held true at Liverpool. Their home matches have seen an average of just 34.44 throws. There have been 37 throws or less in their seven league matches at Anfield in 2024.
The Eagles’ matches have seen the fourth most throws in the division but this drops against the stronger teams. Their four away matches against the rest of the current top five have seen 31 throws on average. There were 34 throws when Crystal Palace hosted Liverpool earlier in the season.
- Selection: Under 38.5 Throws In The Match (TRACKED BET)
- Best Odds: 1.90
- Bookmaker: bet365
- Stake: 8/10
Arsenal vs Aston Villa: Recent Head-to-Head is an Indicator
England, Premier League, Sunday, 14th April, 16:30 (UK)
Arsenal face yet another tough challenge this weekend. They were impressive in their 3-0 win over Brighton in their last league match and need to find that level once again if they are to remain above their title rivals. The Gunners have won their five Premier League matches at the Emirates this calendar year.
Aston Villa are behind Tottenham on goal difference in the battle for 4th. They could only manage a 3-3 draw at home to Brentford last weekend and have now won just one of their last four.
Arteta’s side’s home matches average just 32.47 tackles per game but this game could be an exception. There were a whopping 62 tackles when these sides went toe-to-toe earlier in the season. The other clash between Emery and Arteta saw 43 tackles.
The Villains’ away matches have seen 33.81 tackles on average. However, their last league match on the road was against Manchester City, Arsenal’s title rivals who have a similar playing style. There were 47 tackles in that game so 35 or more here is worth a punt.
- Selection: Over 34.5 Tackles In The Match (TRACKED BET)
- Best Odds: 1.83
- Bookmaker: bet365
- Stake: 7/10
Chelsea vs Everton: Put Sheffield United to Bed
England, Premier League, Monday, 15th April, 20:00 (UK)
Chelsea couldn’t follow up their dramatic win over Manchester United by beating Sheffield United. Mauricio Pochettino has struggled to consistently get a tune from his players this season so it’’ be interesting to see what Chelsea turns up on Monday night. They are 9th in the table coming into this round of fixtures.
Everton were docked a further two points for breaching the league’s profit and sustainability rules. The deduction moves dangerously close to the bottom three. Sean Dyche needs his side to perform in the next seven matches to avoid an unthinkable relegation.
The Blues matches this season have seen an average of 34.73 throws but there were 44 throws the last time they hosted Everton. Chelsea had 20 throws on that occasion. They have reached the required mark for this bet to win in four of the last five matches against Everton at Stamford Bridge.
The Toffees matches have seen the most throws in the league this season with an average of 42.26. There were 42 throws in their last game and 47 in their last match on the road. Sean Dych’s side should force plenty of throws as they aim to disrupt the home side here.
- Selection: Over 19.5 Throws For Chelsea (TRACKED BET)
- Best Odds: 1.90
- Bookmaker: bet365
- Stake: 7/10
